Idk if we can discredit any moves they made and say they were “easy”. At the end of the day even if they fell into their lap, they decided to pull the trigger on those moves vs spending the money elsewhere.

And there were definitely other teams in the mix for Kuzmenko, our guys did the best sell job. Credit where credit is due.

At the end of the day, they made all the moves I listed, and I feel as though many are angry at them for things that were largely inherited from the previous regime.

could they have spent the 5m on mikheyev on a defenseman? Maybe. But who? And how much better would we really be, considering the rest of the roster that JB constructed?

1yr is not a reasonable amount of time to evaluate a management group that inherited: an empty prospect cupboard, about 20 million dollars worth of overpaid players, and a extremely top heavy roster.

let’s see how they look in 2 years from now. If they’re still running with the GMJB roster at the time, I’ll grab my pitchfork, my LE jersey, and you and I can throw pucks at GMPAs office in rogers arena

They had one chance to fix the cap space. It should have been the easiest move in the world. Pretty much a lob up the middle and they completely screwed it up. They can get rid of Horvat but he's a full two years younger and fits the timeline we should be working under. Now it's try to force a win in the next couple years which is counter-intuitive to building with the best players possible. Then to top it off they blow another $5 million on another winger. Leaving us with no cap space which Rutherford is complaining is the reason we suck. We can't even afford Kuz. What a tragic turn of events. It could not have gone any worse.

This has nothing to do with the previous regime. They brought this upon themselves. Stillman was their second best move. Let that sink in.

No gamebreakers.

Pettersson is elite but we need a player that you can count on to score every night. He’s not that.

I thinks theres a solid core of very talented players there and with the right moves and support players can move past this phase of growth.

Imo what we’re really missing is:

1. an old school third line that is used to match up against oppositions 1st line. Center is a faceoff specialist and they play a stifling style. This line is also the foundation for our penalty kill, and reduced the demand placed on our 1st/2nd line so they can take shorter shifts and are more rested.

2. A willie Mitchell type to pair with Hughes, and a diet Willie Mitchell to pair with OEL.

I do agree with you that our roster makes our guys look worse, and they probably look much better on teams with more complete rosters and proper systems.

history has kinda proven that recently- Edler, Schmidt, Tanev, hell even Dickinson all looked better on other teams.

I don't have a big concern with a good chunk of the roster.......it's the coach and management team that have created this mess.  If they had a coach who knows how to implent a string defensive system and a management team who had been better vision, this team would be fine.

I agree there’s lots to like.

Im just saying a player like a Hughes or Mackinnon take a team to another level through their will to win. Bedard is that type of player.

Sure the odds might be against us but at least if we have a ticket we have a chance. Only way I see this team truly becoming a contender again.

Yup, playing with little to defensive system and with a group of fwds who desperately need one.  The dcorp takes a lot of unwarranted flak for things that are not their fault, but end up looking like the bad guys

The guy seems slow, out of position too many times, doesn’t play physical, can’t score like he used to. I mean back in the day he was great but his play seems to have slowed down way too much. It doesn’t help that he has a confused giraffe as a partner but I still do not agree that OEL is a good top 4 defender anymore.

A couple stay at home right shot D have been on this teams wish list forever. I don’t know why they can’t seem to get it done.

And agreed about a third line center. A Manny Malhotra type center who can take on all the tough matchups and minutes is a must.

That being said we need more high end talent. Look at the top teams they have more than one guy driving the offense. That seems to be all we have on a night to night basis.

There's plenty of talent on this team

I’ve always said this. We have a lot of good players but not good as a team. This has a lot to do with coaching. We all love BB but it’s not working, especially those bafoons that run the PK; Mike Yeo and Jason King.

Why?  He's a top 3 damn who can play big mins, play in all situations and has good leadership skills.  They'd have to pay for that one way or another, and the price the paid was well worth it.  His contract certainly hadn't complicated anything.......not until this group made it complicated

They implement they system BB wants them to play.  The buck stops with BB.  That said, they need to clean house, I agree

Coaching definitely has to do with it. I can’t believe the mish mash of coaches they assembled this season. None of them are on the same page. That’s what happens when you don’t let the head coach hire his guys.

That being said people need to give up the idea that we’re close. We’re not. We’re more than a coach and a few pieces away. That’s what GMs keep selling to ownership and it’s why we’re in the mess we’re in.

We’re likely gonna have to get worse (hard to believe I know) before we get better. That’s the only path back to the top. It’s how we got the Sedins and began our ascent.

And a lot of that comes from.a lack of a cohesive system.  There is near zero support for the dmen from this foward group.  They turn the puck over in terrible places, they don't cover on pinches and they don't get back and help the d by giving them easy outlet passes when they get in a jam.

We have plenty of “game breakers”. You don’t have to be “elite”.

This year it’s Bo and Petey. Last year was Miller and Demko. When any of these were on, they dominated the other team and were bonafide game breakers

Forget about the horrid skating, defending, and decision-making. How many shots has OEL dodged this season?

They have to show up every night. That’s what top teams elite players do.

These guys are great scorers but they’re not the type of players that can put the team on their back night in and night out. Those players are rare and typically are found at the top of the draft.

Close to what?  I don't think anyone thought they close to contender status, but they should have been a bubble playoff team, at the worst.  I still believe they can be if this management team can get them past this spot ........all rebuilding teams get to this place and the well managed and well coached teams get past it
