With Boston needing cap space and to rebuild… surely Carlo is available. He would be the perfect partner for Hughes.

They just re-signed Pastrnak to an 8 year deal.  Wouldn't expect them to be thinking rebuild.  They knew that Bergeron was already pondering retirement last off-season.

That blueline is a cheat code.  It took New Jersey years to build that and we won't be getting anywhere close to that for some time.  Literally take anyone from that top six and you could probably slot them in with Hughes on the top pairing (ignoring handedness).  No doubt that core has used defensive size to their advantage, but what about a team like Colorado?  They're much smaller but the skill is insane.  Unless Hronek turns into a complete heist, we're not getting anywhere near those two teams in terms of defensive depth.

Lets just be patient and see what has been marinating in our own organization. Our AHL call ups were effective and could be late bloomers on cheap cost controlled deals. Woo, Rathbone, Pettersson, Jurmo, etc….There are possible answers to our problems within and maybe in a couple years when our window to win is wide open, we’ll see the jump up from guys below, coming in at a crucial time on low cost deals that allow us to add at the TDL to put ourselves over the top. We should not be salvaging the future for the here and now. We need to manage the future so that our window stays open as long as possible, something Boston and St. Louis have managed to do for a very long time. Just be patient and stop trying to rush a Stanley Cup.

Without Bergeron and Krejci who would their top two centers be? Maybe they would want Miller?

For Boston its going to be a loooong dark time ahead if they dont get ontop of a rebuild now. Sell Pasta, sell Ullmark, Carlo sell everything and go full tear down. They can withstand to keep McAvoy as he is quite young still and dmen are more likely to play quite effectively into their mid 30’s. But Bostdone’s future is uuuuuuugly. Same with Sh*ttsburgh

Look at their top 5 scorers…. 3 of them are over 35 and 2 are about to possibly retire.

Coyle and Zacha moved up when Bergeron/Krejci couldn't go.

Boston has close to no cap space.  Can't really see them replacing multi-Selke winner Bergeron with Miller.

I like Joni Jurmo.  He's 6"4" and 210 pounds and can really skate.  If he can get his defensive game to an NHL level he will be a player.  He needs to come to North America and play in Abby for a year or two.  Elias Pettersson 2.0 is also a player.  Pretty physical stay at home type.

If Zacha and Coyle are their 1C/2C next year, then they will be lucky to even make the playoffs.  Tyey traded all of their picks and prospects as well to go all in this year.  They may not want to rebuild but they may have no choice.  Pasta, Carlo, McAvoy, Lindholm are their big trade chips.  Frederic may get something decent too.  I wonder what they will do this summer...

There were discussions about a rebuild if Pastrnak wouldn't extend but he did.  He wanted to know their outlook before signing and likely wouldn't have if the direction was rebuild.

What a brutal take on the Bruins.  Reminds me of this:

Could they be in on PLD?

I'm not suggesting anything.  I'm saying we can't get the kind of defensive talent that New Jersey has without a full rebuild.  They are literally so stacked right now that Luke Hughes is riding the bench.  Through a mix of good drafting and savvy trades, they'll probably be one of the favorites to win the cup next year.

Those names you mentioned may or may not make the team in the coming years.  It's possible they develop into solid D-men.  More likely, they'll become serviceable players like Brisebois.  None of them are proven NHL talents nor are they blue chip prospects.   All of them won't make the jump.

TBL won a cup with how many guys in their prime or just at the end of their prime?

Their cap situation was how f***ed?

Patrick Maroon was the oldest player on TBL in 2021. He was 32. Everyone else, 30 and under. AKA still in their prime.

Boston finished the season as the best team in hockey.  They even loaded up at the deadline.  They still choked against a team that made the playoffs on the last day of the season.  And you're comparing them to the two time Cup champions?

What exactly is there to compare?  Tampa didn't choke, they went to 3 finals and won 2 cups.

Yea but look how long NJD cumulatively built that talent pool. 10 years of no playoffs and how many top 3 picks?

We also dont need all of them to make the jump, if a few guys do and a few are likely to, we have trade chips at the exact moment when we want to go all in and not completely sacrifice the future for guys who are in their prime now and slowly heading down hill.

the worst thing we could do to try and build a contender is move out picks and prospects for UFA players. Guys that are no longer RFAs and are at their peak or close to, that will start trending downward shortly after. Its best we just be patient and be selective of our moves, not desperate

Brutal take??? Wanna hit rewind on your VCR and replay the tape of the last 3 games for Boston?

Yeah.  It's a gut reaction like the ones we had about the 2019 Lightning after getting swept.  They're still a incredibly well-built team that should easily make the playoffs next year, even without Bergeron.  You're actually comparing the best team in regular season history to Pittsburgh, a team whose postseason contribution was giving Flordia a last-minute chance?

I'm saying it's stupid to suggest blowing up the team because they choked.  There isn't a single fan in Boston that would want that.

The 2019 Lightning suffered one of the greatest chokes of all time and everyone suggested they blow it up.  Imagine if that had actually happened.
