And did the teams before these drafting years have players akin to what Petterson, Hughes and Demko are?

Like Patrick Stefan? Or maybe Nail Yakpov? Right.

That's your assumption that Pettersson and Hughes are "all the star power the Canucks need". A solid supporting cast is also required, but that's not mutually exclusive to drafting. Trades are also very commonly used to acquire impact players, believe it or not.

Your myopic view of the situation clouds your judgment. Maybe ask yourself why the team is playing with such purpose now. Do you actually think that they're all trying to pretend that the season isn't a wash? Or maybe, just maybe, they actually want to win, and as Tocchet said, having that mentality will carry into the future.

Perhaps the idea of tanking the season was brought to the team, and they refused because of pride. Is it the right decision? Who knows, but what motivates the players is far different than what motivates the fans.

You will? Well, give yourself a pat on the back. You've earned it.

Golden.

Not just the bolded; the whole rebuttal.

Hopefully they can continue with their winning trend tonight - they need to keep winning and gaining momentum as they have now caught up to some teams who were ahead of them last month - like Montreal, St. Louis, Philly.and maybe Detroit by months end.  If they can sneak into the top 20, it will show that they are moving in the right direction for all the season ticket holders next year.  Hate to lose a Bedard but at least they are showing character and pride in this difficult season.

Some folks see what Chicago is doing and think that the Canucks should follow suit. Vancouver has been in a state of mediocrity for over a decade now, and for a while I was firmly on board with the team essentially throwing in the towel to see how low they could drop. The draw of drafting Bedard is strong when the team is shambolic.

That being said, I've begin to realize that the Canucks also have a few truly remarkable players who are just entering their prime, and those players will want to improve and take on a larger role in the team, which fans are seeing happen right now. I'm pretty sure these players know that the remaining games are meaningless from a playoffs perspective, but something is still motivating them to play their asses off. That should be fostered and cultivated throughout the team.

Good points but the quality of opponent should be considered when looking at the wins.  Tonight, Anaheim will take the loss cause that has more value, for what they want to get out of this season.
