Question/confirmation re: Buyouts:

So a player with a NMC can be bought out of their contract without a doubt. The grey area is a player say with a NMC cannot be placed on Waivers or traded etc at anytime so does one still place the player on Unconditional Waivers ( CDCGML requirement to buyout a player ) for the purpose of a buyout as we are instructed in the CBA or is there something we should adjust so as like in real life a player with a NMC does not require Waivers before being bought out ?

Thank you.

@aGENT

Good question Mike!  I am not 100% sure but I believe that for the purposes of a buyout on a player with a NMC, the team is able to buy the player out. The player has the option of allowing themselves to be placed on waivers or going straight to the buyout, which is what happened with OEL I believe.  I could be wrong, but I think I've heard this somewhere before.

For the purposes of our league, we will just say that players with NMCs will not require unconditional waivers in order to be bought out.  I will adjust the CBA accordingly.

After every single discussion with @Rush17 for the past few months devolving into a different Askarov offer, we felt that the only way forward was to just trade him the player so we could actually make deals with him in the future.

This is a tough deal to make, and the decision came down to my and @Gally's desire to bring in our own young players rather than use the ones inherited from previous management.

With 4 1st round picks in this draft and 4 in the next, we feel Florida's rebuild is well in stride now.

Thank you to Squeak of the Arizona Coyotes, best of luck in finding a rink to play in sooner than later :bigblush:, and to C2X for processing.

I have managed to turn my quantity of picks all over the draft map into three good selection spots at 18, 20 and 45.

Would consider moving 20 and 45 for a top ten or so pick.

Salary Cap Announcement!!

We have always matched our salary cap to the NHL's salary cap in the past.  However, given that we've reduced 2 teams (6.25% fewer than the NHL's 32 teams), that's 2 teams worth of players that are now spread across the league, including star players etc., which puts an unexpected strain on everyone's cap numbers.

To compensate for this, the league in implementing the following salary cap provision that will take effect beginning next season and continue each year until re-expansion.

When the NHL salary cap is announced for next season, the league will increase the GML salary cap to 6.25% above the NHL number.

So for example, if the announced NHL salary cap is $83.5 million:

Quote

6.25% of 83,500,000 = 5,218,750
83,500,000 + 5,281,750 = 88,718,750

Rounded up for ease of use = $88.725 million GML salary cap

If/when we expand back to 32 teams, we will reduce the salary cap increase to 3.25% in the first year after expansion and then eliminate it for the 2nd year, dropping back down to the NHL number gradually to give teams a chance to adjust.

As per this report: NHL Salary Cap set to rise $1M for 2023-24, I have set team charts 2023-24 Salary Cap at $88.725 million as determined above.

I will adjust again if needed if the official number differs from the reported $83.5 million NHL cap.

Pittsburgh Penguins Roster Report

GM ActionJax09 has been busy the last couple weeks locking up RFA’s. The NHL roster is taking shape with a clear indication of what the team will look like in the 2023-24 season.

It looks like forwards Kevin Stenlund, Marco Rossi, Emil Bemstrom, Jamieson Rees,  Mackie Samoskevich, Samuel Fagemo, Carter Mazur and Trey Fix-Wolansky will be battling for the final two roster spots in camp.

On defence the eighth spot will be up for grabs among Ty Smith, Ronnie Attard, and Mason Lohrei

In the crease it’s crowded to say the last with Husso, Petersen, Kochetkov and Primeau all fighting for a job. Petersen has a massive chip on his shoulder coming into 2023-24 after being assigned to the AHL for the majority of last season. He will look to bounce back to prove he’s worth the deal he was signed to.

We are looking forward to a very competitive training camp and pre season.
