grandmaster
Where does Calgary sit with their salary cap? Do they need to unload someone now?

gmen81
To get a top 4 Dman for virtually nothing is a bad move? Alrighty then

gmen81
Is Wideman the guy to get the Flames into the playoffs? No he is not. Flames are going nowhere if they continue to make moves like this.
UFCanuck
With the cap going up pretty much every year, you cant compare this year's signing to previous years 5.25M accounts for about 7% of the 70.2M, which would be around 4.7 in last year's cap For a player that's arguably the 2nd best option on D in this year's FA, someone would've paid him the same amount of money. Dion Phaneuf
Good signing, the Flames defensive core just got a whole lot better. Wideman is only getting better, his best years are ahead of him...
clarkkent
Feaster is making some interesting decisions. 5 mill + for wideman and a 1st round draft choice with some question marks. Go big or go home I guess.

Vigneault's Timeout
Cool, I like Wideman. Flames should still rebuild in my opinion. They're not fooling anyone.
Baercheese
Pittburgh and Anaheim traded two better dmen at the draft for almost nothing.
The Sedin's 6th Sense
Great acquisition by the Flames. They did overypay Wideman with the contract, but it's what you gotta do to sign certain players. Wideman had one good year this year, though he has been a consistent player for some time - solid signing.

WHL rocks
I like Wideman's play but don't understand J Feaster. The Flames clearly need to do a rebuild. Their prospect cupboard is empty. They should trade away some of their veterans to restock and rebuild thru the draft. Feaster is doing the opposite. Even if CGY squeaks into the playoffs they don't have a real chance to win the Cup. Why delay the inevitable.
