[Signing] Canucks sign Jason Garrison

Recommended Posts

This is a solid free agent deal, despite the term.

Garrison is a solid D-man who can help out the PP. He actually has been playing well for two seasons, his offensive production was just that much better last season.

If he can get 25+ points and keep the back end nice and tidy playing top 4 minutes, he's worth the money.

Sure he might not live up to his contract, but then again he could also continue improving and become a bargain stud defenseman.

I don't think it's fair when people compare J-Bo to Garrison in terms of FA money. J-Bo's cap hit would be like a $8 million contract in today's cap ceiling, with no playoff experience. At least Garrison has put up points in the playoffs for Florida and at $4.6 per year, he's the best value for a defenseman after July 1.

We now have 5 LH defensemen and 2 RH defensemen. Obviously, that means we will be trading Edler and acquiring Weber.

Why trade Edler and not Ballard? Because we could get A LOT in return for Edler, and we likely wouldn't be able to afford both Weber and Edler beyond this season. And plus, we might have to give up Edler in the Weber trade anyhow.

it's risky sure but he's proven to be a great shut down top 4 D man, he may not hit the point total again and that's fine we could use a more of a shut down guy on this D core. What's really interesting to me is Edler situation... see we need to re-sign him BUT Weber should be a UFA and is everything we need, Gillis won't sign a player then trade him so I'm betting Gillis is after Weber this offseason, Preds can't sign him they may be willing to trade him and Edler can help ease the loss for them as he's a young top 15/10 D man who can put up 50 points maybe add in Schroeder and it may make sense for both teams. Or if they're really hurting for D man we can send them Ballard and Edler ;)

3.05 million now being one twentythird of the salary cap: 70.2 million divided by the 23 roster players...this deal is All Kinds OF Awesome. And frankly, as someone pointed out earlier, so is Luongo's. When you get players that are superior and well above average for not much above average salary cap hit per year, your winning. #winning.
