I thought he played admirably for us the season he was the starter. Too bad he couldn't get an NHL job.

Or, y'know, maybe no one gave him another chance? Guy could have been an okay starter. I miss him as a backup.

He also had the best mask in franchise history.

People do realize that the year he started for the Canucks our defence was absolutely decimated, right? Salo played 59 games, Jovo played 44 games and it was Bieksa's rookie season.

Yeah he did. Unfortunately for him, it was all downhill from there.

At one point Steve McCarthy was our 3rd Dman.

Auld played fine, and if we hadn't made the Lu trade, would have taken the sieve's job the next season.

Hell, I'd rather see the Canucks take a chance on Hasek than see them toss Auld a new Canucks uni to throw on!

Point being, there are better options out there than Auld, so in what universe does not signing him mean Gillis isn't doing his job right?

Great signing by Auld...Austria, and Salzburg in particular are breathtakingly beautiful. Gorgeous country and just about the cleanest place i've ever been to in my life. Solid hockey market as well. He'll have a blast.

Or you love the game and want to continue with your passion even when you're rich enough to retire comfortably.

Another player from Thunder Bay. I met Alex Auld once, he came to a goalie school that I went to in Thunder Bay....talked to us about what it takes to get into the NHL, I remember thinking he was a giant... although this was quite a while ago.

I'm sure he could have gotten an NHL contract as a backup again, maybe hes getting more money in Europe, or maybe he just wanted a change of scenery. Either way, I wish him good luck.

Guy was a decent goalie, just didn't get enough opportunities, and when he did he was behind a brutal team.
I could see Lack being a sort of Auld 2.0, and I would be okay with that.
