Should the SPCA donate meat to homeless shelters?

Seeing as it is not illegal to eat dog and cat in Canada. Would it not be prudent to try and help the less fortunate by offering them unwanted animals for food? It would be the equivalent of recycling. Once you get past the taboo of using these animals for food, there is no reason to allow their bodies go to waste.

This further adds to the problem that Shelter's have to deal with in the first place- that non human animals are essentially viewed as "disposable". We shouldn't view non human animals as "recyclable". The effort should be made to change this view, and hence lessen the amount of unwanted animals that end up in shelters in the first place.

I understand the pragmatic point you are making, but it ignores the mission statement the SPCA holds
