Armada
Engineers in China will attempt to construct the world's tallest building in just 90 days. The 'Sky City' skycraper will be 2,749 feet tall, and will have 220 floors. It will be built in Changsha on the banks of the Xiangjiang river - and the firm behind say they'll be able to put up five floors a day, after work on the foundations begins at the end of November. The building, which is about three times as high as the Shard in London, the UK's tallest building, has been designed by some of the architects behind the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrGsS2IQqAg. It will be built by Broad Sustainable Building, the same company who recently put up a 30 storey hotel in 15 days (see video at the bottom of this post), also in China. Broad Sustainable Building have built 20 tall towers in China, using an intensive, pre-fabricated modular method. In total about 220,000 tons of steel will be used for the boxy, blocky building. There will be 104 high-speed lifts, and the estimated cost is about a tenth of that of the Burj Khalifa - about $1,500 per square meter. According to Construction Week, it will be complete by March 2013 - when its makers say it will top the world record for height -- as well as be able to withstand an earthquake of 9.0 on the Richter scale. Up to 31,400 people are said to be able to live in the mega-building. However, this is all still pending the approval of the Chinese government, so we'll hold judgement until we actually see the thing go up.
Pears
Build 5 floors each day in 90 days? Good luck with that.
goalie13
If it's all been pre-fabricated, is it really being built in just 90 days? It will be more like it was assembled in 90 days, like a giant Meccano set. And for those that don't know what Meccano is, you missed out on a great toy. goalie13
Had a small set of Meccano's when I was a kid but I was more of a Lego guy myself which seems to me how this building will be put together.

Jägermeister
Also I don't understand why they're building this in Changsha? Its the 19th most populated city and surely isn't the most important. Wouldn't it make sense to make it in a city like Shanghai?
Harbinger
This is second hand knowledge. A business guy I know who lives in Hong Kong six months out of the year. Has two places in China, One in Hong Kong and one in some major Industrial city. He bought both his places in new buildings. He explained that they didn't have property taxes and that when you buy a new place there all you get is the Shell of a place in a building. Just Concrete. You have to pay to have everything else put into it. Plumbing, electrical, Communications. Walls and fixtures. These were dwellings. Not office space. Just thought I would add this. Ossi Vaananen
This is flipping ridiculous. Totally unnecessary and as a rushed project it probably won't hold up well. Did we not learn from 9/11? Just compare it to the other buildings in the image, completely retarded. I don't get it.

:D
For comparison, the actual next Tallest Building in the World is about to get started in Jeddah and is expected to take 6-7 years to construct.

Mountain Man
Kinda reminds me of Jenga after you pull off the cardboard stand. How long will it stay up. 90 days to construct, 60 days to fall down.
