On top of the shooting, this also happened today in China. Disgusting.
What is wrong with the world?

http://www.theglobea...552/?cmpid=rss1

A man stabbed 22 primary school students in a knife attack in China on Friday, officials said, the latest in a series of assaults.
The attacker “has been detained”, said a spokesman for the Guangshan county government in the central province of Henan, where the stabbing happened.
“Twenty-two elementary school students were stabbed, so was an adult villager” but none of the victims died, the official, who declined to give his name, told AFP.
The state-run China News Service said a man attacked the students with a knife outside an elementary school, resulting in injuries which were “not life threatening”. It did not give the exact ages of the children.
China has seen several violent attacks against children over the past two years, including a spate of five incidents in 2010 which killed 15 children and two adults and wounded more than 80.
The assaults have forced authorities to increase security around schools and led to calls for more research into their root causes.
Violent crime has been on the rise in China in recent decades as the nation’s economy has boomed and the gap between rich and poor has expanded rapidly.
Studies have also described a rise in the prevalence of mental disorders, some of them linked to stress as the pace of life becomes faster and socialist support systems wither.
But authorities say that murder, which carries the death penalty, remains far less common than in most Western countries.

Crazy people all over the world I guess.

If you like looking at statistics to determine who's better, you're just a casual fan.

2.41 season GAA isn't very impressive. Let's not get into playoffs and his SV%.

Another sad story, but I think it would be good for gun advocates to read this.

None of the victims died. Would the same be true if the assailant had a semi-automatic weapon? But it's not easy to get those in China....

So for those who say "nutjobs will just find another way", I say, "that's correct". With much less success.
Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Even with stringent gun control incidents do happen as there are mentally ill in all countries.

However if one has to resort to a weapon other than an automatic firearm, then the carnage is likely to be significantly reduced as occurred in this attack on 22 elementary students.

Only a strong police state, where weapons are tightly controlled, can prevent such tragedies, oh wait...

Serious child murderers, pick on somebody your own size.

I was going to post this in the other thread, didn't want to make a new topic. But this is sickening. Such a messed up and twisted world we live in.

WTF. On the same day as the shooting? So f'ed up. Obviously going on a stabbing spree is terrible, but doing it at an elementary school is so much worse.

This story has a great lesson. As gun advocates rightly claim, there are crazy people all over the world who will commit crimes no matter what. But today a guy with a knife in China stabs 22 people and kills no one; a guy with a gun in America shoots over 100 rounds and leaves 27 dead. Still don't think guns are the problem? F*ck you America.

Those were my exact thoughts after I read this story.

It's just too disturbing that this isn't even the worst attack on young kids today...

Remember when those sick people poisoned the baby milk in China. That is as vile as it gets. Just bring back brutally severe capital punishment and you will see these incidents decline worldwide almost over night. The killers or killer should remain nameless for eternity and the incidents should receive next to no publicity.

There needs to be knife-control laws passed, clearly knives are the problem here. And Twitter. And Facebook.

Nothing will ever be 100% effective. However, this raises an interesting point:

One of your pro-gun cronies in the other thread pointed out the fact that there are ten times as many Americans than there are Canadians and that this was in part at least, responsible for the discrepancy in these types of incidents between the two countries.

Using that logic, there should be far more of these attacks in China, since they are the most populous country in the world...

Just imagine the carnage if all those "crazies" in China could get their hands on an M-16...

I don't feel compelled to defend or justify someone ignoring murders being more prevalent in America merely because you conveniently categorise us as in the same boat. You should take up their arguments with them, not me.

China is a police state, whichs BTW means a lot more than "they have a lot of police" and like all police states they've killed far more of their own citizens than civilian owned firearms ever will.
