Just heard on Team 1040 that Gillis has confirmed Eddie is gone for the year. Apparently surgery was successful so hope Eddie makes a full recovery and we see him 100% healthy next year at training camp.

Don't think this affects anything on the Lui trade front, for this year anyway. Any thoughts?

Edit: Also confirmed by @BradZiemer.

Yeah....that sucks.

Might explain some of the wobbly performances, though.

Damn.. didn't realize his injury was that serious

Hopefully he recovers better than ever, he's missing a year of valuable playing experience!

Seemed to have a good attitude in his blogs. Positivity goes a long way during recovery.

Good Luck Eddie! :canucks:

Oh nvm, for some reason I was reading 'Alex Edler' and not Eddie Lack.

That's unfortunate for Lack. Hope he recovers okay for next year. On the flip side, this gives Cannata a chance to shine for the Wolves, especially with Climie injured as well.

He's been on the shelf too long. It was starting to sound as though something more serious was up.

I don't think he was part of our plans this season anyways so it probably doesn't change much in terms of the Luongo situation, but it delays his development quite a bit which is unfortunate.

Happy healing Eddie

Opportunity for Cannata.

"What players need is the right kind of strength and power. That includes learning to understand that leverage and positioning can be just as important as raw strength when it comes to winning battles in the game. It's more about timing and athleticism --and avoiding injury--than it is about how much you can bench press. I don't know how many times I've seen a guy with the physique of a defensive end line up a guy half his size, only to bounce off when he connects. Sure, there is room in the game for big guys who can throw their weight around. But for the most part, players are smart enough to see them coming--and strong enough to protect the puck when they arrive. There are trainers out there who know how to devlop hockey-specific strength--though a trainer can help only if a player follows the program. All too often, I've seen players sign up with the best trainer, but not show up for their workouts and never to reap the benefits."

Lack's contract is a one-way next season because #Canucks expected him to be NHL ready. Hip surgery changes landscape once Luongo dealt.

Sometimes I just have to wonder what our team has done to piss off the hockey Gods.

Isn't hip surgery one of the worst surgery for hockey players?
Cloutier was never the same, Morrison took a couple of years to fully recover, even Kesler seemed like he lost a step.

Hopefully since Lack is still young, he can fully recover.... but I'm kinda expecting a down year for him upcoming season.

This explains why gillis was showing more signs of holding onto luongo than before. With Lack injured, lui is going nowhere

Not necessarily. It just means that Canucks will need to acquire a different back-up when the trade goes down.

Some of the teams supposedly interested in Luongo would likely prefer to send one back to us as part of the package anyway, as they probably already have 2 goalies that are waiver eligible.

Opportunity for Cannata.

Exactly - he has been great thus far in the AHL( 2-3-0 with 1.70 GAA and .932 S%)

It seems like Arniel is now going to him over Climie.

More knee surgery and groin problems when considering goalies. But then Markstrom in Florida has already had surgery on both his knees and they aren't about to give up on him yet.

Climie's been good after getting a string of starts in Eddie's absence, and Climie has done quite well coming in as a backup there too. We'd absolutely need a backup for the NHL if we do complete a trade, but I'm not worried and I'm sure we'll be able to give him a chance to recover.

He really has shown why he was thought of so highly in college.

Makes sense why they haven't traded Louie yet. They definitely need a backup Goalie in the return package.

Well I suppose this means that we have to get another goalie, either in return for Lu, via free agency, or via waivers.

all is not lost...look at Ray Emery. He had the worst type of hip surgery and he's come back.
