Both the Canucks website and NHL.com list him as a RW. He's also called a winger in articles. Do you know if he has center experience?

Previous two seasons in the AHL, 83 points in 137 games, +58, 300 pm. Not bad for 'average'.

Jordan Schroeder has had essentially the exact same production as Steve - and at 8 years younger too.

Except Pinni also brings hitting, fighting, much better size and versatility to the table.

So Pinni can produce like a first round draft pick and bring the bang, not a negative.

schroeder has 72 pts and +28 in the same number of games (2010/11-2011/12). the difference? schroeder is a 1st round pick who's supposed to be in the top 6, whereas pinnizotto's role in the nhl is as a physical depth forward.

pretty telling, actually.

I thought he was really impressive in training camp two seasons ago,and basically earned a spot on the team ..very noticeable with his hitting, stirring it up etc.

What I'd like to know is, who's going to press box when Pinnizotto gets in the lineup?

visors are mandatory in the ahl.

Yeah, but not in NHL exhibition last time I checked.

Funny. Last I checked this team needed scoring and players that can actually make plays.

I figured Kassian, Weise, Lapierre, Higgins, Sestito, Hansen, Edler, Garrison, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Alberts, Burrows would have had the size/fighting/hitting aspect covered...

All this hype for an average AHLer just shows how awful Vancouver's just shows me how bad our situation is...

ESL?

Better just write him off I guess.

I'm really rooting for him, he's had a tough go of it the last few years with all these injuries.

Hopefully he can provide this team with a spark. We really need one.

It's great that he is.healthy again and hopefully he can add energy to the fourth line. I wonder if he will play C and if lappy will take 3C?

scoring will have to come in a trade if its coming this year obviously.

Good poitn, i guess everyone else forgot all of those guys play 4th line center. and before you make the argument, lapierre is filling a different role while kesler is out.

I can't wait to see him get a chance to get in the line up. When he was picked up, I recall in an interview he showed a lot of confidence that other teams weren't going to take liberties on the Sedins any more.

Good! We could use another center. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for all your informative posts in the CBA thread.

People tend to make snap judgements about players like Pinizzotto because he's 29 and doesn't have an NHL resume, but I think he brings alot of balance to his game and will really bolster the fourth line. Imo he's been the best depth player in the system since the Canucks signed him (I'm not including Malhotra and Lapierre who I think are role centers and not typical fourth liners, or guys like Kassian and Schroeder who have seen shifts but aren't intended for that role). Imo, if he were healthy, Pinizzotto would have taken a spot over any of Volpatti, Weise, Oreskovich, Mancari, Duco, Sestito, etc - and the fact he is able to play center and take draws only makes him that much more valuable. He's got more scoring potential, he hits people with intent, he can obviously stand up for himself and his teammates... I'm looking forward to seeing him play - I think he's a definite upgrade that the Canucks need.

Here is hockeysfuture's scouting report on him from 2008:

"Pinizzotto’s game combines great offensive ability and some grit. He can set-up and finish plays. Where Pinizzotto is particularly dangerous is around the net. He can often be found making things happen around the net. He is also quite strong along the boards and in the corners. Pinizzotto is a tough competitor and won’t shy away from the physical aspects of the game. He moves the puck extremely well and possesses nice passing skills. Pinizzotto has a strong shot with a quick release. He is strong on skates and has some good speed but needs to have a quicker first step. Like all young players, adding size and strength to his 6’1 frame will be crucial to Pinizzotto’s future success. "

And the AHL website and HockeyDB list him as a center. He's played there before, so it's not a new thing.

Definitely sounds like he could be exactly what we need on the 4th. Hope he does well in Chicago and we get to see him here soon.

Sestito - Lappy - Pinizzotto/Weise

Looks like some grit and agitation thrown in a nice little bundle, best I've seen the 4th line in a while. B)
