singularity
Ok, so I am still a bit of a newbie on somethings. I am following the Flames - Ducks games with great interest, and a comment by a Phlegm fan had me scratching my head. Basically he said that if the Ducks win the series, then the Flames get a higher draft pick than Vancouver. Not sure how that works since we were out in the first round and they would be out in the 2nd round? Or am I missing something else.

singularity
Ugg it has been exampled multiple times. THE ONLY WAY WE MOVE UP IS IF MINNESOTA, CALGARY, or WASHINGTON MAKE IT TO THE CONFERENCE FINALS But surely Calgary falling to the Ducks won't get them ahead of us? Hasn't our position been set already? And not sure where it has been exampled.. I searched, couldn't find anything,

Alexandre
I read somewhere on CDC, that we move up one position in the draft, for each one of those three teams that make the conference finals.
singularity
Google my friend Sure. What's your friends name? Seriously though, I tried that, but all I get is the draftcenter which has no information that is useful.
elvis15
The draft order is basically still by the position the team finished in the regular season, except for the 4 teams that make the conference finals. Those four teams drop from whatever position they were in and are reseeded in the 27-30 spots (with the team winning the cup getting the 30th pick). So, if a team that was below us in the standings makes it to the conference finals, then we move up a spot in the draft. But if that team doesn't make it to the conference finals and goes out in the 2nd round, they retain their position in the draft order. But the information is out there, it's just sometimes not easy to understand even when you do find it. For instance: NHL draft order rules. But if you ever have a question like this in future, don't forget about the General Hockey Questions thread.
Monty Mahla
the best thing would be give away hamhuis and kassian(if they dont wanna play him properply) an jump up the draft picks...cuz we have edler, sbisa, tanev, clendening, corrodo, stanton, bieksa, weber, subban will be signed and reassigned to utica.. if we dont trade kassian then burrows gotta go...our one top player has to go..that just make the team better and salary cap can be controlled and then we might pick something up from free agency...or we dont need a free agent cuz roster is packed too..coming back to the draft placement..we need to trade for the pick this year...if burrows go then jensen can come or gaunce both have to work hard for it tho....only that way we can get young and keep winning too...now dont tell me that if hamhuis it will effect affect our defense..yes it will but think about this hamhuis is not what he use to be...losing the puck, making bad plays, turnovers and dont forget when luongo was in the net and he unknowingly put the puck in his own net...im not saying he is a bad defence but he is one of the in defence and we have extra defence and he is the only one with good trade value..that way we'll have a better draft pick.. Time Lord
Ugg it has been exampled multiple times. THE ONLY WAY WE MOVE UP IS IF MINNESOTA, CALGARY, or WASHINGTON MAKE IT TO THE CONFERENCE FINALS someone work up on the wrong side of the bed today... Well it gets kind of annoying when people make up their own incorrect placement scenarios. Like those people who say "At least we got a better draft pick by losing to the Flames." Mr.53
Ugg it has been exampled multiple times. THE ONLY WAY WE MOVE UP IS IF MINNESOTA, CALGARY, or WASHINGTON MAKE IT TO THE CONFERENCE FINALS I'm with everybody else.. RELAX BRUH. It was a good question.. But to the thread. Is there any reason why it is done this way? Seems like common sense, that if the Flames advance further than the Canucks, they should get a worse draft pick. Any reason why it's done this way where they can beat us and still get a better pick?

apollo
I don't see why people don't just answer questions in a humanly manner. What's wrong with those guys... If it upsets you, just don't click the thread ffs. Or press back... I'm not quite sure my self and I'm always on here. Just here to rant against those ranting against the poor OP who has a question... On a discussion forum. God forbid someone has any questions in life. Oh and the why don't you google that is the worst response ever. It's a discussion forum... People come here to discuss. I'm sure you can google anything - don't be a smart Alec. numb3r 16
Either way hopefully Benning trades the old stale core and gets us McDavid.
Zuongo
We finished with the better reg season record, So unless the flames beat the ducks, they will have a higher draft pick than us.Conference finals can change that order depending on who makes it, lower seed etc.
