  1. Their depth is abysmal until that changes they will be stuck in the limbo they find themselves in. Hockey isn’t like the nba where 1-2 stars carry a franchise. Good luck to them.
  2. Quality goal tending and first line filling the net is a winning combination
  3. That’s not the way I see it. Gaudette will drive play for the line. He is more of a shoot first center but let’s call it like it was, Brock was shoot option 3 on the lotto line. On this line he will be expected to shoot/drive play more which I think is good for Brock
  4. Boeser will get the power play time with the top guys. Jake’s speed and ability to play physical is a pretty big boost for the top unit. I think they want Boeser to shoot more and he should be the top shooting option on that line.
  5. I would suspect most khl and shl teams would handle ahl teams 7 or 8 times out of 10
  6. Comparable d man would be Ryan Murray still is picking up some injuries but similar track in terms of pedigree and injuries shortly after being drafted
  7. I guess you have to look at why their development is delayed. Is it a skating short coming? Well not in lock woods case speed and agility is why he got drafted. Then you move down to size physicality. Probably an area Lockwood targeted to develop in college but at close to 22 years of age might be closing in on what his man strength is going to be. Last would be skill/hands, the guy has been in elite hockey programs for an extended period and these tend to be the more natural gifts that translate into high end offensive skill. Defense is a little more unique in that repetition helps d develop and identify situations. For rafferty specifically could be his coaches haven’t given him a lot of rope in college. Could be a bit of a unicorn in terms of the ahl offensive breakout following average college production.
  8. If you aren’t driving play as a college senior tough to invision an nhl player. We are going to see some tougher decisions on our 50 contract slots. Lockwood will have a tough time cracking Utica next year probably one to let go.
  9. That play was 2 minutes at worst in an nhl game. I’m glad he’s playing that style he’ll need to in the nhl and guys will think twice about running him
  10. The point production is a bit interesting considering his college stats. Was he getting power play time in college?
  11. Good thing for Olli is he is one of the few guys on that list in a position to work his way off that list.
  12. To me Gaudette is finding his way now in the league and atleast from an offensive perspective will be our 2nd best center by seasons end. If we are to win this could mean Bo adjusting his game to play a more defensive role to put the team first. Use the tools he has to be that shutdown guy we need.
  13. He has changed his wrist shot the last year and half or so. Last year he started using a slapper for the shots from the high half wall. This year it’s mostly wristers but it doesn’t pack the zip it did when he first joined the team. I haven’t compared video but I seem to remember where Brock would bring the puck pretty close to his body to shoot compared to now and it messed with the goalies pretty good. It may have been a decision that his wrist can’t hold up over 82 games to his old shooting technique and they had to adjust
  14. This year is not about winning a cup. Playing gaudette full time 3rd line this year improves the player and helps us win sooner
  15. I’m sure they were watching the hips close or really anything below the waste as injuring a different part of the lower body following a knee surgery is a common issue.
  16. Regarding the Marner hard working list what wasn’t mentioned was how many times they asked Mitch to increase his work rate before Babcock tried that approach. When coaching any type of sport I can’t tell you how much having guys not buy into the culture holds you back. I don’t think anyone is going to borrow babcocks idea and add it to a coaching manual. Look at a guy like Boeser on the Canucks how much is forecheck has improved both from a willingness and effectiveness standpoint. I’m sure those conversations were not easy as well.
  17. If EP or Hughes kept a good gap they have the agility to deal with the first move. Once MacKinnon gets a head of steam pretty much anyone is screwed
  18. I think petey is starting to find the range with the one timer. A few inches either way and his shot last night is a goal and the game has a different outcome. we need player movement in addition to puck movement as the pk’s Are too good. Once we are setup it wouldn’t be a bad idea to let Hughes rover a bit to breakdown the d almost like a point guard.
  19. My pet peeve is people less experienced with Saskatchewan winters pushing snow from their driveway onto the street in November. Most of the ones I’ve seen also didn’t have a poppy on. Maybe the local welcome wagons could come with some local etiquette for living the melting pot dream.
