  1. I think situations like this to an extent represent true colors. GMJB has never shown to be stingy on contracts which would seem to point to the impasse being the player or the agent. What I like about Brock is he is a family first and community guy remembering where he came from. That factor could also make it tough to keep him as a UFA down the road. I’d say give him a fair bridge deal but also have part of the strategy with the player/asset to be a guy that you are open to trading if the right deal came along.
  2. If he’s one of the best 6 he stays and if not it is Utica for now. All of our other top picks have been allowed to play when they are ready Olli will be no different. If he needs more development he will start in Utica.
  3. Bo of course is a great choice as captain. The dilemma is in 2-3 years Petey may be the undisputed top alpha dog on the team. Maybe it’s best naming Bo as captain and letting EP just play. Other than EP being younger he is exudes a lot of hockey leader type qualities teams and coaches look for in particular 2 way play. We are really in the category of a good problem to have. The real question is Bo strong enough to take the C today and pass to baton in 3-4 years time.
  4. I’m a little more optimistic than some here on our future d situation. So long as Juolevi can fulfill his potential(mostly stay injury free). Guys like woo and rathbone can slowly move up the chain to become 3rd pairing and hopefully 2nd pairing defenders. We will have some forward prospects who could be traded for d if the d don’t pan out.
  5. Guys if you can get an expansion team to take one of your goalies rather than a skater I think that is a massive win. Look at the loss of defensive depth all over the league at the last expansion draft. Backup goalie 100% before #4 d or useful forward.
  6. This makes sense and is expected. Good for team in midterm as well if hoglander can be productive on his elc.
  7. Appears to be some recency bias on the 2019 picks but that’s a pretty deep top 10 with good potential for most to see nhl action. Lots of D coming which should be ready as Tanev/elder replacements in a few years.
  8. I watch the jets a fair bit as they are part of my regional coverage. Laine went through an extended slump where he seemed to lose some swagger for a while. I think going through that slump will be good for him long term as it shows a young player that you need to contribute in other ways when you aren’t scoring. His shot and other scoring tools are so good he will score 30 routinely and really is a big threat to pot 40-50 per year.
  9. Someone earlier had profiled juolevi as a Tanev I just don’t see the similarities. Tanev made the nhl only because we can defend better than most. Juolevi has the tools to be a 40-50 point defender it’s a matter of how well he can defend that will dictate his ceiling.
  10. We are more talented than we were 12 months ago. It’s now up to the players and coaches to make the most of it. Winning is a habit and you see teams like Edmonton, buffalo even Carolina struggle for years to get over the hump and become playoff teams. We’ve injected a large number of veterans the last 2 off seasons that came from playoff teams and they will help support the younger players and set the tone for the level that needs to be maintained.
  11. As much as you rightly criticize Eriksson everyone pencils in Leivo which I think is ridiculous. He had about 5 points in the last 20 games playing significant minutes usually 18:00+ per game. J.T Miller and Ferland replace what leivo did at a higher level of performance. Leivo will be depth or 4th line at best. Motte is in a similar boat once Roussell is back in the lineup. All of these are good signs as guys are getting pushed down or off the roster because we are getting better!
  12. I disagree with this comment. He is no longer an Elite player worth 6 million. But would make atleast the 4th line on most NHL teams. There have been a lot of people pencilling in Lievo to our lineup that might be a little surprised if he gets waived or traded at the end of camp.
  13. I’m from sask and housing is pretty affordable, Manitoba is pretty similar from what I gather. 15-20 minutes is your worst commute in either sask city and about 400k would buy you a bungalow 5-10 years old which is pretty in reach for a lot of households especially if you owned reale estate elsewhere and moved here. Now we have no oceans, mountains or pro hockey but you can live a very comfortable lifestyle.
  14. Agree 100% having gone through a similar situation with my dad’s lung/brain cancer situation last year. Family support for the one going through it and the unit in general makes such a difference. I couldn’t imagine living half way across the continent during dads last months if that comes to that for Brock. Thoughts with the Boeser family.
  15. I remember being so chafed that the oilers flukes their way into another Kurri. Tough to imagine how they couldn’t get this guy producing 20+ goals given his toolkit
  16. The way the leafs are adding D with expiring contracts it would seem Tanev is a match made in heaven
  17. I really like what has been done to bolster our d and we are much better positioned with young guys sitting in backfill spots 1-3 years out juolevi, woo and rathbone similar sentiment on the forward positions.
  18. Every time you fill a need/hole on a team it raises the level of all the surrounding players. We still have time to fill the d spot and will benefit greatly from a full year of Hughes. As our offense improves and we have more control time in the opponents end of the rink this will make our d appear more durable as we should see less of the freak injuries incurred blocking shots/defending. Possession players like miller help move this forward.
  19. One thing to keep in mind is that by the time we start paying the likes of petey and Hughes real money Edler will probably be retired and whoever we spend on this season from a ufa perspective probably fills that salary slot on a almost dollar for dollar basis.
  20. Baertschi, sutter, Hutton, possibly leivo goldonin if they are patient
  21. It’s an interesting piece but uses a lot of old data. We are trending positively and should make a strong playoff push next season. It also reinforces a lot of the east coast bias that tanking is the only path to rebuilding. Our round 1 and 2 picks look like players. Based on the number of guys under contract we should see some of the surplus converted to draft picks which the eastern media should get a major Chubb over.
  22. Juolevi, woo and Rathbone are 3 big reasons to draft forwards
  23. I like this trade heavy winger to support our skill guys. Fits age group of our players. Will have opportunities to outproduce what he did with Tampa playing what will likely be an expanded role with us
  24. Does anyone else feel like we are stuck waiting until Friday for any trades involving Canucks players to support the the entertainment value of a home draft
