The value of cap space when used for something other than UFAs.

I agree, especially that we are not in Cup contention but we act like we are every year. The mandate from ownership is playoffs now and have seen nothing to make me believe we will do anything other than spend every penny to try to scrape in now, the future will be the next GM and coaches issue if we don’t.

Of the group we have who could realistically step into NHL? 6/7 guy-Wolanin, maybe Rathbone, maybe Keeper. any higher-Juulsen only option listed that realistically plays higher than bottom pairing this year. Woo may finally get a couple NHL games.

Before the bonus is paid? Don’t buy it unless it involves next years first (which I have been saying I think we will deal for months).

A transition year after a transition decade. That is actually likely the most appropriate thing to do for our long term success which kind of makes it the least likely thing to happen. The OEL buyout on top of the mandate from ownership of playoffs now whatever the cost tells us we are going the other way. We will spend every penny on win now pieces. Really wish we would use the cap space we bought more effectively than signing middling UFAs but seems increasingly unlikely as time goes on. Either that or we have done an amazing job of closing leaks because there is barely a whiff of any news around us.

I think it is the nature of these boards and fandom that some people get enamoured with and argue for specific players which gets them more emotionally invested. Sometimes they make emotional responses because of that. Someone threw an absolute tantrum about us not picking Benson on the draft thread because they had a chub on for Benson. Canucks had him as their BPA and he is definitely a more valuable asset than a slow small winger.

Big guy, obviously a big name and played in Kelowna so we get enamoured. Worth a look as AHL/depth guy.
