The way this team has played hockey for the last decade, the debate and arguing over minor points is more than half the fun.

Do we though? Seems better in some aspects certainly but not sure the sum of the parts is even good management at this point. Not as tragically bad but still lots of yellow flags at least. Horrible cap management. Hard bought cap space squandered on middling UFAs when cap space had it's highest historical value. Yeah they didn't cripple us with long term deals for lower end players but that is just average management at best. 8 years of cap restriction for buying what have been 2 depth Defenceman and the 5th centre on Vegas. Still has not moved a cent off the wing other than sliding a winger into the middle because you left yourself with one NHL centre. Made one good trade that they backed themselves into a corner on and had to make. Then slightly overpaid for an injured D man who complicated the cap further. Don't forget the non-stop lineup of PR problems. Better than Benning yes, great though has not been earned.

The ECHL is to the AHL what the AHL is to the NHL. It is the next step down where they can send players for further development. Silov's was sent down from the AHL to the ECHL his first year.

I think Nylander is the better player between him and DeBrincat. That isn’t much more than Brock. Nylander has turned into a high level offensive player. No winger is worth $10M at this time. Ovechkin was.

Mik-Ep-Kuz Beau/PDG-Miller-Boeser Pearson-Blueger-Podz/Garland/PDG Joshua-Aman-Hogz/Podz/PDG PDG/Beau Waive-Studnicka Hughes-Soucy Cole-Hronek Wolanin-Myers Personally would like to see Beau and Garland go. Beau isn’t very good defensively and is overmanned in bottom six and is at best a middle six winger. If he can’t hold spot on our second line he should sit as not a good player for bottom six. Podz can play anywhere and will get some top 6 time this year. Studnicka wasn’t good at anything. Wasted a pick and prospect to get him and he is barely replacement level. I think Hughes-Soucy start together. Don’t know if it will work. He has been a #5 level defenceman throughout his career, this is a big step up. I think by mid season you will see a Hughes-Hronek pairing being used a concerning number of minutes as RT tries desperately to cling to fading playoff hopes. We need to trade at least one, preferably two forwards.

A 5’7” winger that scores 40g. This isn’t Garland. A lot of Hyperbole and devaluing Bo while pumping Hronek’s tires A LOT. Hronek is good but he has never been thought of as elite and may have been a number one RD on a bad team that said we have a better option at this position. Hronek and Bo sound similar in that wanted significant money and the team said, meh would rather spend that on someone else, we have better options. As good as Hronek was at times, he had a reputation for taking a lot of damage and getting buried in his zone, he isn’t a perfect player but a very good one like Bo.

Saw Teenage Bottlerocket and the Queers 2 nights ago. Fantastic show as always for TB and The Queers were great too.

The initial rounds count in standings. The semi and finals don’t. Each winning player get $500k. Kind of feels like cheering for the rich to get richer since the tourney is otherwise meaningless.

Who said he was an answer to anything. I said it was the right thing to do walking on his contract. The argument was that Myers was better and he demonstrably is not whether it is the eye test or stats. He may be able to put together a better looking highlight package of hits sure,but that doesn’t win anything. Like it or not Bear was one of our better D last year. 7th D-man on a good team yeah, we weren’t a good team in large part because of Myers and OEL.

He is significantly better. A few highlights of a few hits doesn't change that. When you look at the effect of Bear he made every player he played with look better, Myers tanked all their numbers when he was with them. Letting Bear walk was right thing to do given the cap situation and size of our cornerstone D-men but that doesn't mean he isn't the better overall player.

Trading him for Karlsson, SJ would actually get better defensively while acquiring the Double Flamingo.

Again, Kaprizov 9.5M, sit down Willie you aren’t getting more than him.

He is still a really good player who deserves every cent of that and more. He is not a guy trying to prove he can still play or trying to catch that elusive championship run. He shouldn’t be asked to play for essentially free just because he has had a good career.

In the terms of cost for young(ish) defenceman, we payed a 1st and second last year. If Pesche is around the value of Hronek AND you need them to take a contract you assume your price in prospects/picks goes up. Garland and next years first doesn’t get it done. You feel like we are short the equivalent of another first and that isn’t worth it. Only if you could use Rathbone or Hogz as sweeteners but no team in their right mind would take two 5’8” wingers for a quality right D.

Considering the Matthews renewal is rumoured to be 5X$14M, $10M doesn't sound so bad. There isn't a winger in the game would pay $10M too. It makes building the team at the important positions too hard. Pay this guy more than Kaprizov, please.

Was that when he was playing through injury or on IR for most of the season?

We fill up our bottom 6 with UFAs and cast offs but when we develop our own we send them away ASAP.

Josh Bloom could sign minor league contract. I believe Jurmo has contract for another year in the Liiga. That is a minor problem really. He is worth a one year show me contract near league minimum.

Bar is so low now that not screwing us for the next five years seems like a success. Would like to see the bar set a bit higher than better than Benning. Will be curious what happens if we screw the pooch right off the bat again this year. Will they actually perform some major surgery.

Youtube is not a better way to get a feel for a player than stats. Watching highlights hardly gives a fulsome view of a player. A+ for an offseason where we signed 2 depth Defenceman and a depth centre all of which need to play higher in the lineup than they have historically in the past after an 8 year buyout handicapping us. That is setting the bar very, very low for an A+. We do need to prioritize getting EP signed. If can't or won't then we need to be ready for a sell off this season and actually take a run at a local superstar going into the draft instead of trying to do everything you can to avoid one when out of the playoffs one month into the season.
