    Many players were drafted out of high school or a junior college so you’re right, they’re not terribly well educated. It’s also a very “God, freedom, America” sport which I think is a factor. Look at the whole ordeal with the Rays players refusing to wear the Pride jerseys.

    Maybe he was hurt but I thought Tkachuk was a ghost against Edmonton other than the one game Calgary blew them out. He did absolutely nothing in the other four games. edit @BarnBurner now that I read it again, I can’t tell if you were saying Tkachuk did or did not bring it in the playoffs

    Minnesota’s been making the playoffs most years for quite some time now There needs to be cap space and/or assets available to improve that team that’s capable of making the playoffs but no more. That’s the issue.

    Only the retaining team can offer 8 years, the other 31 can only offer 7. I'm not sure it offers us much of an advantage as we really don't want to give him 8 years anyway.

    You make good points, but I was referring more to how the term left (or lack thereof) puts pressure on the Canucks in a way Colorado didn’t feel with Duchene. If they’re gonna trade him I’d like to see it done before the season starts. I hope the game of musical chairs reaches some sort of resolution a few days into free agency.

    If I remember correctly, didn’t Duchene have an additional year of term left on his contract at the time of the trade? While I still think the patience of that trade is something we should keep in mind, the additional year remaining is an important distinction.
