  1. Lots of mistakes by most Cancucks players first period, we should be glad to still be in the game. But as were are - GCG!
  2. Nice knee-high pass from Stecher to Benn before the penalty...
  3. Not released from NHL team either. Victor Soderstrom who was somewhat surprisingly kept off the original Swedish roster will take they place that was reserved for Boqvist.
  4. He does seem off regarding his balance a lot of the time, agree on that. For his game yesterday vs the Sharks: - good D throughout the game as usual - one or two really good scoring chances - set up Miller for a clean break-away - set up Boeser for a free shot from the slot While I agree he's not playing his best hockey, achieving the above while closely checked (as usual) is still an ok game in my eyes.
  5. With Edler out Fantenberg is now the #4D and has passed Benn and Stecher. (Don't believe me? Just look up the ice time for the last games.) Not sure he's suited in the long run for anything more than 3rd pairing, but great depth signing and a big upgrade over DP, Gudbrandson, Stecher etc. IMO.
  6. Shoot the puck Jake, you're not a finesse player, get it in your head!
  7. Fantenberg was a really good and cheap depth signing as well, he's been very solid in the last few games.
  8. Really bad. Apart from dealing with a players health and career, it would also cast a really shady doubt on the nucks if after his last issue with Clifford he went into 2 games and had issues again immediately AND the GM Benning denied it being concussion related.
  9. There’s always risks involved in trades, you can’t protect yourself from everything. The thinking is we’ll make the playoffs this year or next year or both. That’s reasonable thinking IMO, you can’t rebuild forever. Getting a player like Miller In the middle of his prime and on a good contract with team control requires giving up something valuable. As long as he’s playing top 6 and both producing and playing a 200 ft game I think it’s definitely worth it.
  10. Totally agree with this. I can understand why there's criticism when Leivo is on the PP or on the first line with Horvat, but he's an elite 3rd liner when it comes to defensive play and board work and he's also a terrific sniper when he gets the chance. When he's on the third line he's a big part of our team. It's not his fault that we still lack one or two skilled top 6 forwards.
  11. If by frustrated we mean he was piss*d off when losing 8-6 after leading 6-3 then I’m ok with that.
  12. Lots of talk about Jake’s hockey IQ. That’s warranted regarding offense, although his overall game is coming along nicely, but the issue is more that Jake needs to realize what kind of player he is. Hit, check, and when the puck is on your stick give it to EP and head for the net. Also, the recent skid is bad but last time I checked we were still in the playoffs. 3 pts in 2 games vs oilers and then over 500 on the home stand and we are on good foot again.
  13. Not sure where I stand on the Babcock is overrated argument. Coaches that has the winning record he has and the reputation he has are in general seldom overrated though. As for Green - this is already his 3rd season as head coach. Maybe he will get another year, but beyond that I would be very surprised to still see him here and even more surprised if he is the coach when the team is ready to contend. I don't think that was ever in the cards either. He's still a rookie coach for a young rebuilding team and needs time as an assistant in the NHL to have a chance of becoming a coach that wins in the playoff IMO. The idea of getting Babs is definitely intriguing, though...
  14. Actually a valid point, his passing on the PP hasn't been that good, although his overall PP play has. To some extent, it's likely because opposing teams generally cheat a bit on both sides since they know Boeser and EP are there for one-timers. But this leaves two questions imo: 1) If other teams can get their passes through for one-timers, why can't we? Need faster passing from all 5 guys? 2) If the other team takes away the one-timers on both side, mathematically that should mean QH can walk right in and create a 3 on 2 in the middle, or draw the opposition from either side towards him so Boeser or EP gets open? But what do I know, I'm not mr Brown ;-)
  15. I for one think the lines look good and focus on that instead of bashing LE. His position will sort itself out when Rousell, Motte and Ferland returns. Especially like the 3rd line with Baer - Gaudette - Leivo. That’s legit! We still need 1-2 top 6 wingers and a top pairing RD imo but then we’re on our way...
  16. There’s a reason he fell to #40 in the draft, so of course there’s areas he needs to improve. That said - of course he should’ve dumped the puck in the corner and went for a line change instead of trying that selfish zorro play again ;-)
  17. Had kinda written off Palmu. Still an uncertain IMO, but nice to see him doing well.
  18. He’s definitely not getting the bounces and to some extent he’s been frustrated by tight checking, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him doing a bit better numbers wise going forward But I agree, we really can’t complain either way... EP talked in the off-season about being ready for 82 games so I think he’s playing more paced by design, almost like a vet already. Playing with Miller probably helps as well. The one thing I don’t like is that he gets loads of shifts with the 3rd D for some reason, which means he rarely gets the puck on his stick with speed. That’s a shame since he really is flying when he picks up speed.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

Saw Anton play live with Brynas in SHL last night. He's still a good player but nowhere near the player he was 2-3 years ago, especially his skating is clearly not at the same level anymore after his injuries. So pretty likely he'll play his remaining years in the SHL now, nothing wrong with that but his bad luck still stings a bit, should've been a Canuck!
  20. Top 6 wingers is arguably the team’s weak spot now so trading Boeser doesn’t make sense, also think getting equal value would be difficult, a pick in the 5-15 range is not enough IMO. It’s interesting though that Boesers trade value might be the highest it’ll ever be right now. He’s been good overall and is around top 20 in the league for points. Would love to be wrong but I think that’s about his ceiling. I’m kind of surprised by his overall game this season though so hopefully he’ll continue to impress.
  21. He looked like a legit star against the Nucks. Imagine in a few years...
  22. Getting really tired of the LE is lazy stuff. Guy is ripped and has a constant effort both on the forecheck and on D. That said, he has lost a step which was apparent at the worlds last season and definitely this season. It is what it is, he’s far from the only FA signed to a long contract that’s just a cap waste for the final years. I’m sure Ferland and Myers will get there eventually (although their contracts were signed by a more experienced GM and easier to handle). Just a shame LE didn’t score 20+ goals for his first three seasons here, then I’d be ok with it and he’d probably have an easier decision to hang them up.
