  1. I don't know much about Garland. Isn't it weird though how he does not try to bulk up like many other forwards in the league do?
  2. Nashville could not win the Cup partly because Ryan Johansen is not a franchise centre.
  3. J.B. gets a call from Vegas: "Hey Jim, do you want Shea Theodore for a 3rd round pick?"
  4. Nope. This trade transferred all of the risks to Vancouver with regard to OEL for the next 6 years. The only risk Arizona is taking on is that the draft picks are busts. This is not a great trade. I do however refrain from berating J.B. because I do understand the immense pressure he is under to do avoid wasting another season.
  5. Which is weird because the Van media for a year kept ranting about the ownership letting people go, wants savings in player salary, and won't pay Travis Green and Ian Clark what they wish for because the owner is going broke.
  6. If in the unlikely event that Petterson does sign an offer sheet, I suggest that Vancouver match the offer sheet but right away negotiate for a trade for Eichel. The organization as a whole cannot tolerate this type of negotiation tactic lest other RFA will attempt the same thing in future negotiations with Vancouver.
  7. Which is why J.B. should be retained in the organization for his great hockey mind but should not be the G.M. of the team.
  8. I'm not a J.B. basher but this is a very poor turn of events and it's on him.
  9. What is the point? I mean Canucks still need a backup, why not just keep him for another season?
  10. A lot of fans lack objectivity because they do not follow other NHL teams to acquire wider perspectives. A lot of fans also never worked in industries that exposed them to risk assessment and risk management, strategic decision makings, corporate hierarchies and communications. Then again, I find fans in general know more about hockey than voters know about politics and policies. The average fan is still way more knowledgeable than the average voter
  11. Most likely outcome is that Schmidt is traded for two 3rd round picks and then a RD is signed via free agency.
  12. Tell Quinn if he does not put his signature on a $6M x 8 years contract we will send him to Columbus.
  13. As a follow up to my first reactions above in quotes couple hours ago, I feel better now about giving up the 1st round draft pick because none of the 4 top D prospects were available at 9th overall nor was McTavish and Kent Johnson there. I also feel good about not losing any young players especially Rathbone and Hoglander. This trade is still very risky but OEL’s contract is relatively speaking buyout friendly. If the caps go up eventually we can buy him out after 4 years.
  14. I'm trying to be fair in my criticism. I would add to my previous post in quote that although I still think this trade is too much of a gamble and the 2nd rounder is overpayment, I am very glad that Vancouver is not losing any young players/prospects in this trade.
  15. Not a fan of this trade although I appreciate the motivation and logic. This trade transferred all of the risks to Vancouver. Is Ekman-Larsson going to play well for Van? How much will Garland sign for? This trade is a GAMBLE for Vancouver. Ekman- Larsson is not a RD. He came off another bad year. Garland is tiny and may not perform well in the playoffs. Vancouver has arguably overpaid by throwing in the 2nd round draft pick. Nonetheless, I still think J.B. is a decent G.M. He is pretty average, not bad and not great.
  16. Can you please elaborate on Gillis facing resistance? I do not know what happened back then.
  17. Ken Holland will likely be all in trying to acquire Travis Hamonic. I don't think the loss of Larsson will be a death blow to the Oilers.
  18. I'm throwing more fuel into this intriguing J.B. debate; - Did Toronto ever get through the first round under Dubas?
