How many managers and coaches does Shanahan get to process thru before answering for his record? -
(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller

Are you talking a straight up deal or asking for a Carolina sweetener? Carolina has to add IMHO. -
(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft
Boudrias replied to Baratheon's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't get it? Schenn doesn't meet the Canuck timeline besides being a bottom pairing d-man. Yet you are willing to pay him $2.5 - 3.0 mil x 3 years? If the bottom line was playoffs with upside I might agree. Playoffs are possible but not the bottom line for the Canucks next year. Player development and TOI for the d-side players who are likely on the roster as a contending team in 24-25. No room for Schenn in this scenario. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Alexis Lafrenière

As usual fans are ignoring the org need on the d-side and center and grasping at the home run. Not going to happen. -
Silovs-Kennans-Abols versus Meyers-Bear: Canucks past and present. We won'r count Irbe the coach. It will be a fun game to watch.

Aquilini was livid that Canucks picked Juolevi over Tkachuk
Boudrias replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Joe, isn't the history of this franchise the need for just one player to led the Canucks to the promised land I mean CUP. Tkachuk is on a run right now so of course picking Joulevi was a franchise altering disaster. Benning tried to pick a player based on positional need rather than BPA and it blew up in his face. That doesn't change the reality of how the org was being ran. Linden was the closest this franchise has ever gotten to a leadership on and off the ice that could make a real difference. If reports are true he wanted a rebuild and that should have happened. The reality might be that the Canucks still need a rebuild. Ownership, media and most fans cheer on the idea of playoffs next year and anything can happen. #11 pick is just as good as a top 3 pick or god forbid a #1 pick. -

A point for consideration is the possible loss of Russian players who might return home as the course of the war in Ukraine evolves. I my experience with Russians is that they love their country despite who runs it. How deep does that patriotism run in many Russian NHL players? Of course the reverse can also be true as players want to keep their families away from the almost inevitable collapse of that country.

That Norway game was pretty brutal. Bear was on the ice for a GA but it looked like he had his check.

There are regular season players and there are Cup contending players. I don't include Garland in the latter. Quite frankly we don't know yet what Kuz is capable of or Mik for that matter. Promising yes. IMHO only Petey and Miller have full cred as of now.

[Report] Maple Leafs part ways with GM Kyle Dubas

Again not clear about my memory but wasn't Joulevi picked for size but also position. Absolutely no argument that Tkachuk would have been a game changer. He is having a great season and even better playoffs. -

If memory serves both the Joulevi and Virtanen picks were lauded by most Canuck fans as the team had been physically manhandled in prior seasons. Canucks choose size instead of BPA. Amazing how the org need has not changed all that much after all these years. Canucks certainly have more core talent but still require much more size to be a serious contender. -

Coyotes lose vote for new arena - future unclear

No way Arizona gets moved into Ontario. Laffer #2 team will be an expansion. Why? Because the NHL will charge $2 billion for that franchise. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Akito Hirose
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Unfortunately this is not the route Vancouver choose. Media and fans clamp onto a couple of strong players and think that this will create a team. Not saying that it won't just that the odds are much longer. Canuck depth is not deep enough and the d-core is still a mess. CAP constraints prevent or limit options. Quality of the vets needed to be moved are not great other than Miller. -
You could very well be right Alf. Miller likely helps this roster make playoffs next year. My concern is whether that is enough considering the possible downside. Is the issue the quality of player Miller will be in 3-4 years or the increased depth of what a trade would bring back to the Canucks? As fans we like to look at the org depth with rose coloured glasses IMHO. You point out the Stars as an example of older players who are performing well. Fair enough. My concern is that the Canucks do not have the same level of performance from their prospects. Moving Miller would broaden that depth and could make the overall team stronger. Every summer Canuck fans speculate on how good all the team players and prospects are or will be. IMO a major + takeaway was the progress in Abby and the Canuck org being prepared to actually develop players in Abby. I am encouraged by the new coaches headed by Tocchet it suggests that Allvin has a better approach. Like most of us I am hoping Allvin can swing some trades before the draft that moves out some CAP and allows him to add to our d-core. If he is able to accomplish that then maybe keeping Miller will be a option. Bottom line is that Miller could easily be one of those moved.

I am not willing to send my tax dollars to Quebec so that they can have a NHL team. -
I don’t know Joe? Not convinced that Bear is a playoff quality top 4 d-man. A lot of analytics people think so. With Hronek coming in I prefer bigger d-men.
