  1. You mean like the Bad Richardsons and Alex Chiasson's of the hockey world I guess.
  2. Expiring contract or not, one probably opts to play in the WC quite simply, to play for their country and to possibly add another trophy to their arsenal; another part to one's legacy and more to write on their obituary! (I jest on the obit part.) I'm sure it's not vanity or any such thing as that, but more so a duty. if you will, or want to play for your country. A genuine desire as it were. Bummer with Bear's injury from such though. But he's got a World Championship Gold Medal. And I'm sure he figures it was worth it for the experience and the outcome, injured or not. So.....it's just a matter of how this affects his contract with us, or even if he's still gonna be here.
  3. Smashy! Smashy! Smash any thought that he'll be a Canuck. Ain't gonna happen!
  4. No to either of these guys. As it seems Kass is on the decline and Nemeth is only a #7 or #8 D, we have less pricey in house options thank you. I know we got an influx of money after OEL's buyout, but getting pseudo fringe players to basically field another season of mediocrity ain't the answer. If we go that route, then it makes sense to keep it in house. That being said......... I've been led to believe that Canucks management have playoff aspirations for the coming season. And I'm fully aware that we have holes to fill to get there. I just hope they spend the extra money wisely. Draft is in a week, there's still free agent madness and the whole summer to see where we stand for the coming season.
  5. I agree with you two for sure. Certainly goes without saying that as a 3rd pairing, he's paid too much. I was fairly stoked when we acquired him. Had hopes he'd be the big RD we were lacking.............Still hoping! If Myers gets to, I dunno, like 80% the player he used to be, then perhaps ya' might say he's worth his cap somewhat. Perhaps he needs a partner that compliments his style of play, whatever that is these days. And if he does, in this reality, get to that point, where would ya' play him?!?!?!?? Hughes and Hronek are the standing 1 and 2 respectively as I see it. So with that, Myers would still be slotted as a 3rd. And then we're still plagued with the statements in bold above. As it is at this point he's in on our D core until trade deadline next season.
  6. LMAO!!!!!! Those last 3 posts made me laugh big time. Thanks! I dunno what the deal is with some CDC'ers being so enamoured with Tree. Is it because a team rival could pick him up and Tree makes us pay by beating us badly from his stellar size, physicality and whatever?!?!?!?!??? Man! Dude's not gonna be a Canuck. He might not even be in the NHL. However that being said.......... Is there any interest from any NHL team regarding Tree's desire to possibly return?!?!?!??? Has anyone heard anything concrete?
  7. Seems to me every few years or decades, there's a Western Conference SC contending team that WC teams seem to want to model themselves after to be successful. Including our Canucks. As great as the '82 and the '94 teams were in their respective playoffs, they we're pretty much one of those, "Get in the playoffs and anything can happen!" I missed the '82 run. That team had heart and that I believe what got 'em in. But they didn't have a hope in h#ll to beat the powerhouse Isles. The '94 team was built around franchise player Trevor Linden. That team made some great drafts that ended up being cornerstones for that team. And the trades and acquisitions to supplement the team was the icing on the cake. That was purposely built to be a playoff team and once in, had the guavas to go all the way. Almost did! The Westcoast Express teams had an expectation to contend, and as talented as they were, The Red wings were the team to beat. Unfortunately other WC teams had the same plan and competition was better than us back then. Hands down, the best team we fielded was the 2011 SC Team. The Mike Gillis built team was built to contend for the SC and win it. There was no doubt in my mind that, as cocky as this may sound, we had it in the bag in 2011. It's my thought that if Hammer didn't get injured, we definitely would've. C'est la vie. And we come to the present! We can build a contending team, but there's always a team that you must get through. Obviously that's The Avs and now the Golden Knights. We can learn from the Avs success last season and the Golden Knights this season. As much as I hate to say it, Vegas has turned into the dreaded rivalry, as was the 2011 team's rivalry was in the Black Hawks. However it's a 3 head dragon we must slay this time. Wowzers! Really went of topic, huh.......... I think we'll be in playoffs as early as this or next season. This coming season if we're lucky enough to hold a wildcard spot and squeak in with the possibility of help from other teams. Season '24/'25 we could be competitive enough to actually get in on our own. A SC contending team though, to me is a minimum half decade away. And it might not be the Avs or Golden Knight we gotta worry about!
  8. As usual. Lazy me can't even be bothered to peruse two pages of this thread. So............. ...........NOPE!!!!!! The acquisition of Hronek, as timely or un-timely it may be, is all around a dire need for our D. BUT, we do need to get Bear signed. Bear's gonna be useful up and down the three pairings going forward. He's not in the class of star defensman, but he's got some skills useful to our line up. I like what I saw from Hirose and perhaps he'll be a full roster add in the next season. There's obviously some of the farm guys vying to make the grade; those that we've seen thus far, and Woo, McWard, Boner looking in. By and large though, unless the farm boys show us something great at camp or pre-season, Hronek's trade is not enough. As been repeated ad nauseam, a 6'3"+, 200lbs.+ puck moving D-man or two would be great. Also a big 3rd line centre and a couple of more Joshua types would be cool too.
  9. He very well could. His credentials are too great to resist from taking him regardless of his country's woes. Arizona...OMFG!!!!!!! IMHO, let the horse die already. What a clusterf*ck of an organization. Move 'em and rid the NHL of this embarrassment. Sorry....off topic....... Arizona, arena/location issues aside could definitely use a 1st rounder of this ilk. And in the future, perhaps they'll be a place for hime to play with 'em. Capitals love their Russian players. The rebuild mode is upon them and this would be a good move for 'em to be sure. I'm sure OV will be with the organization in some form or another after he retires. Or maybe he'll still be a player and will be there on the ice to be a vet presence for the young lad!
  10. Okay. Thread's going on 3 years old, but I'll bite. Benning was a Rookie GM for us. He made mistakes for sure. And mistakes that still haunt us. But I will say it's not just his doing. Ownership is to blame as well and I'm sure Aquaman knows it. And I hope he's learned from it. Benning got us some good players though in the drafts. Petey, Huggy, Pods, Hogs, Flow, Demmer. And needless to say, he had some misses as well. Questionable trades abound. Won't go into that. And letting go young prospects before they even had a chance to developand/or play for us....Forsling, McCaan....... But all in all, he did an alright job in his stead as GM here. (leaning towards the negative side of "alright" mid you....) He'd be great as part of a scouting crew for an NHL organization though.
  11. We'll, I did forget about him, but for good reason. I believe he's worth a look. Really depends on how he performs at camp, prospect games, pre-season games. If he's lights out, my guess is he'll get to play with the big club at the start of the regular season. However I'd be surprised if he steps in as our much needed 3rd line centre. I'm guessing he's still gonna be in Abby next season. Even if he shines before such, my guess is he'll earn call up duties when roster players get injured. Nuthin' wrong with that.
  12. Draft is 3 weeks away, man! Gonna come up pretty quick. I dunno who's best among all the suggestions brought up in this thread. At #11 it would seem to make sense to pick the BPA regardless of position. I'm guessing we won't get a player that'll help us anytime soon anyways, so,"don't think this moves the Canucks closer to a Cup....." That pretty much sums it up. If that Russian kid, Michkov is miraculously still around when we pick, it's a no brainer. With what I've read on this kid and saw on clips, any team would want a player of his talent level on their team. It's not the first time we had to wait for a Russian to come over. Hmmmmm....seems like most of the Russians we pick required a wait....interesting!!!!!?!?!?!!! What is he, like 17-18yrs.old? By the time he gets to N.A. he'll be in his early 20's. Sure he's somewhat undersize, but it sounds like his talents far outweigh that aspect of him. He'll miss some development on N.A. ice for sure, but he seems like the game breaker type goal scorer that we can use. A RH d-man and RH centre are obviously needed to be sure. One way or another, if we pick based on positional need, we're gonna have to wait a season or two till he's ready for the big club anyways. It's my guess after the draft and whatever they do this or next season to alleviate cap space, they're gonna address the 3rd line centre need via trade, and or an RFA/UFA acquisition. As far as D pairings to compliment Huggy, Hronek and OEL? They're gonna keep it in house for now. Why not. There's some candidates, Wolanin, Juulsen, Bris, in the system they used last season that did the job. And call ups Boner, Woo. Can't forget those already on the roster Burroughs, Hirose, McWard and of course, Bear. So we have many options in house to help out for now.
  13. I've not gone through all 11 pages of this thread. However, going on the ops title, opening post, and my lack of knowledge regarding caps and such, I do have an opinion. From all that I've read online in this and other hockey media sites, I form the conclusion that yes. We are in a cap hell of sorts. The extra $1,000,000.00 is pretty much a minor slap in the face for most teams for the next season. Including us. I'd like to think, or more so.....I wish we can offload some cap this season. It's been discussed ad nauseam about buyouts of certain players, OEL, Garly, and Flow to name a few. Trades involving cap retention to soften our cap and such, and draft day scenarios to achieve such as well. Also..... Is the injury issues regarding, Dermot, Poolman, Pearson and Ferland a factor in our cap situation? My naivety regarding those scenarios of LITR are confusing to me. (Truth be told, allotta' things on the business side of professional team sports confuse me. Especially the NHL!) I'm sure there's a team or few that need to reach the cap floor that could help us. I don't know who they'd be mind you, but I'm aware that this scenario happens often in the NHL. All in all, that extra mil isn't much unless your team is in a situation to benefit from such. Our Canucks might find the increase helpful in the long run, but I don't feel it's gonna be relevant till we fix up some or our current cap BS.
  14. I'm of the ilk that an enforcer, per sei, isn't really a requirement in today's NHL. More feisty physical, don't back down types. The Tkachuck bothers are fine examples of what I'm talking' about. Also team cohesiveness goes a long way too regarding support for smaller, or vulnerable, and star players. It's not up to ONE player to enforce. Everyone's gotta stick up for each other. More JT Miller type feistiness and more Dakota physicality and size please!
  15. Pretty much agree here. If any of those 4 players mentioned above could be the 3rd line centre, it woulda' happened already and any discussions of needing a 3rd line centre would not be happening around our Canucks. Your take on Sasson seems interesting to be sure. I do realize how he did as such in Abby from what I've read and clips of his play. Wether Sasson can make the grade on the big club for that position is yet to. be seen. At the end of it though, more likely we're gonna try to get someone via trade or??!?!?!??? There's so many questions yet to be answered regarding this club. Draft is in 3 weeks. We'll see what the state of the team needs are after that event. Cheers.
  16. A big NOPE!. Sure. I get it. He's a hometown boy and as Canuck fans, we like our local talent and feel an affinity towards such. In his prime he'd be something worth pursuing. But for our purpose, he's not worth it. Even for the reasons of his size, physicality, toughness and veteran leadership......NOPE! Doesn't fit the mould with our management's plans for their re-tool. Did I say, NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Gonchared?!?!?!???!!! That sounds painful, or perhaps humiliating. I getchya' though. It'd do a world of good to work with him and Foote in the camp.
  18. I'm okay if we lose a few games at the start. It's how we lose 'em that'd be the concern. That record for most losses with multi goal leads should've been a wake up call. Coming out strong is all fine and dandy, but those weak 3rds were definitely not the bomb! I'm guessing Tocchet's coaching will bring in more consistency. Though we require some of our present players to implement what's impressed upon them from such. If they're not able to sustain those good habits, then we need different players. 'Nuff said!
  19. I went with option 3. Was torn between 3 and 4, but decided to go with the ideology of the glass half full. This obviously says that our defence is NOT SC caliber. As mentioned earlier in here, we require more mobility and physicality to supplement Huggy and Hronek. There's no doubt in my mind that we're gonna see some entertaining Canuck games next season. I believe a full camp and season with Tocchet and staff will be effective. BUT..... Needless to say, a lot depends on what we do at the draft and beyond this summer. And how in house players, like OEL, Myers, Hogs, Pods, to name a few, perform. The addition of Hronek changes the makeup some for sure. That being said, we do need to offload some cap to acquire help on D. Also acquiring more size and grit for our 3rd and 4th lines. A speedy two way 3rd line centre...Yep. I'm of the ilk that all this isn't gonna happen this season. We'll be in the playoff picture assuredly in a couple of seasons. But addressing our cap is first and foremost.
  20. Brock + 11OA + Fox's ol buddy Rathbone +4th.......for K'Andre Miller? I'd be down with that. Dude's what we need on defence.
  21. Big Gilmour for Leeman type trade????!?!?!!!?!!!??? Both teams need a shake up and back then, it didn't work out for the Flames.
  22. Former Canucks 2016 late rounder Latvian, Rodrigo Ābols. Opinions for centre 3 or 4?????!?!?!??
  23. I'm a fan of the underdog. (Maybe that's why I'm a Canuck fan! ) Gutty performance from Latvia. The 2023 WC's been their year for success, and I'm pretty sure our own Silovs was a big factor in that Bronze Medal outcome. Good on ya, Latvia!
  24. Unfortunately Canadian pride and heart was too much for ya', Latvia. Fear not. Still a chance for a medal. Gut it out and go for Bronze....call 'er done!
  25. I'm okay with this scenario. Their 19th overall and some mid and later round picks for out 11th and cap dumps? Yea. it makes good business sense. We need the cap space. Not necessarily for a high profile RFA or UFA signing. More so for the purpose of in house capital. Sure. Sign a free agent, but a less expensive one that can play now. Obviously a 3rd pairing D-man and/or a 3rd line centre. Rightys would be nice!
