  1. I think it's a combination of seeing how Sils does playing in a pressure situation, evaluating his overall level of play, giving Demmer additional time off, AND Delia a deserved rest. Besides, a loss is a loss. No matter who's in goal. It'd be soooooo freakin' awesome if Sils won. But I'm okay with whatever outcome. No matter who's in goal. Go Canucks Go!
  2. Well I went with keeping him. It's not as if he's useless. And at this point, even though he's not the same as he was a few years ago, he's still definitely has purpose on our team. Besides, as mentioned earlier and more than once.......dude has a contract that no one wants and moving him will be difficult. I know OEL ain't no Karlsson, but ya' never know. Dude might get his second wind and be that guy again. Now that being said............ It bears repeating....Our D Sucks! We need better support. There isn't any top grade D in the draft this year, and to obtain a top tier player of Norris/Conn Smythe ability, well...............It'll have to be through free agency I'm afraid. A couple of matched pairings to play with Huggy and OEL would give us a suitable one-two D pairing and with the rest of what we got D wise will suffice for now. As mentioned earlier, even if we won the Bedard sweepstakes, we will still suck. I think with the speculation of trades involving some of our forwards, we'll get drafts and prospects of higher talent, though probably still raw. Hence us not being a winning team for a bit longer. I'm okay with that. And OEL will still be in the picture of that foreseeable future.
  3. I never really understood 'jock mentality.' And it's not so much to do with team sports or other high profile athletic disciplines. The whole hazing or initiation ceremony regarding whatever club, fraternity, brotherhood, sisterhood or whatever the f#ck; It's just utterly obtuse. I just don't get it. To be subject to such erroneous acts of indecency and/or depravity seems to me, to have nothing to do with supposedly, good sportsmanship within a community. If one has made the team via ones own abilities and talents, shouldn't that be enough to show that you belong? I mean........JEEZ!!!!!! How f#cked up and desperate is this! I mean on both sides. Why would a young hockey phenom need to do this type of sh#t. And why would his team mates want to be part of this?!?!?!?!??? I'll never know the true thought process for such, and I'm glad I never will.
  4. Yep. Agree. Kid wasn't in the top three. He was a mid 1st rounder in a draft year touted as strong with forwards in the former half of the first round. So I would say we got our man. We haven't picked in the 1st round since we got Pods a couple of years back. And to be honest, I was stoked we had a 1st rounder in '22 and no matter who we picked, I'd be on board. At #15 I'd expect a player of Lekks ilk. Meaning, not NHL ready. Give him time. There's nothing but time for a kid this young. And I'm more confident with the treatment and development training in our organization than the previous regime.
  5. This! It's obvious that Martin cannot handle the load of a #1 and certainly Delia wasn't meant to be a full time NHL backup for us. And as sh#tty as this may sound, they're both doing admirable jobs of losing. To put it another way......They're doing what's expected of them, but can only do so much with the poor D corp we have. This helps with the tank for Bedard sweepstakes for sure! As I mentioned in other Canuck Goalie oriented threads in CDC; I dunno if what I've read regarding Demmer's unhappiness in Van and/or the Canucks organizations is just rumour or truth but as it stands, dude's still a Canuck! The team friendly contract he agreed to was signed during better times for him. Now he's dealing with a setback regarding injury and poor play. In life as a professional athlete, it's certainly nothing new and it sucks for him to be sure. He's probably itching to get back in the lineup as any pro athlete would. However the best way forward right now, is for our franchise goalie to heal up and let tank nation come to fruition. I'm not saying management is holding him back deliberately. But perhaps being cautionary in regards to returning to full-time play from injury too quickly. Lord knows that our Canucks D will work his ass off upon his return. And we certainly don't want any further damage, right? To be honest, I was surprised to hear of trade rumour talk around Demmer. I'm pretty sure JR stated that he was one of the untouchables awhile back. What's changed?!?!?!??
  6. I didn't watch the Flames/Rangers game, but after seeing the highlights I'm excited to see how we fare against the Rangers tonight. If we get the same treatment as Calgary did, will we respond?!?!?!??????? Go Canucks Go!
  7. I didn't watch the skills in whole, but I did see this. Looked like he was trying to murder the stick too! Regarding the game tonight? I'm stoked. I don't know what to expect, but the new era begins! And win or lose they're still my team. Go Canucks Go!
  8. Well...The Isles acquisition of BoHo is certainly a good start to their 'retool' if you will. I believe that's what they're up to. I believe Bo will make the Isles fans a happy bunch and will play up to expectation, once he gets in the groove with his playmates, coach systems and such. The Isles wanna make the playoffs, and I think that's the plan, they're definitely gonna have to improve their D. An offensive puck mover D guy would fit the bill for 'em. In a way, their situation is somewhat mirrored to our Canucks; 6th in their division, weak D, Lack of gamebreaking forwards, coaching changes..........except we're unofficially rebuilding and they're outright doing a retool. In short, I'm happy for BoHo's new situation and pay day. He deserves it. I'm confident he'll earn it too.
  9. How about we forget Tree altogether. Dude dusted us off for father Russia. And why not. It's his home. But let's move on. He's no Zdeno Chara, and probably not even a Tyler Myers, so why bother?!?!?!?!???? I'd rather the ghost of Luc Bourdon over Tree! At least he was a spirit with spirit! Go Canucks Go!
  10. I don't know if Gar and Janny are comparables regarding offensive talent, but Jannik does have a few more inches of height and a sub par 200 pounder. However, I do agree. It's better to trade him rather than buy him out. There's lotsa' time to do whatever with Gar. For now, we ride him under our new coach (former coach to Gar.) and staff, and see where it takes him. I'm totally down with trading him. But if he thrives under Toch, then he'll look that much better as trade bait. No buyout, thanks!
  11. It seems English spellings of Euro-Asian names don't apply to proper English pronunciation. A-E-I-O-U and sometimes Y and any combination of such screws things up from how I learned about English growing up in Canada. And what about combinations like KH, NG, ZH, XI, let alone Aatu Raty?!?!?!?!??!?!?? That being said....... I'm an Asian. Grew up as such. My mom was an amazing Chinese cook. Anywho.....I get it. English writing trying to emulate foreign sounds and pronunciation is the culprit for all the confusion. I know those sounds and I get the reason for spelling for such. But Euro names can be confusing. In Quebec, it's Pa-ree-zay. But Zach insists it's Pa-ree-zee?!?!?!!???? And if one were to spell out Patrick Roy's name the way it actually sounds, how would it actually look??!?!?!??? Derek Roy?!?!??!?? Go Canucks Go!
  12. Unless a draft has a Dman prospect of note in the top three, and we're NOT in that mix, then I believe we gotta pick the best player available regardless of position. Pick for position 2nd round and up. We might get lucky. Who knows.
  13. Obviously Schenn is a leader and a player for our Canucks. He'd be such for any team. Hearing that he likes it in Vancouver, for me, makes it even tougher to let go of someone who wants to stay. That being said, the business of professional hockey must go on. If we benefit in a trade for Schenn, then we'd be obtuse not to make that move. Besides, after he wins another cup with TB, Colorado or whoever, he can come back, sign a retirement contract with us and live happily ever after with his family in Westcoast bliss!
  14. Well......Jurmo is certainly one of the tallest D prospect we have. Certainly not a heavyweight. (Not yet anyways!) The Woo's and Juulsen's of our farm eclipse 200lbs. And they're RD. Nothing wrong with Jurmo being lighter or being a LD. But he certainly is not our best prospect. I like that he has size and skill, but he still needs to develop more to transition to the smaller ice and the NHL pace. Let alone the AHL pace. I like this pick and he has upside, but dudes still nothing more than a work in process. I'd be surprised if he gets to play with the big club anytime soon. Give it time.
  15. Well said! I couldn't agree more. Especially with what you say in the bold font paragraphs. I'm not sure if I trust JR. But I trust the process. What he's laid out at the outset when acquired as prez of hockey operations. It might seem that he's strayed from that; signing JTM, bringing in more forwards instead of needed D, trading our beloved BoHo, etc. But as I mentioned, it's all to get us to contention. I think I get what he's up to. He's still got to make trades to get us some drafts, prospects and offload pricey contracts. He's gotta look to the future of keeping Petey a Canuck, and any other young players they deem part of the process; Hogs? Pods? Up and comers from the farm, university, Euro leagues, etc. All while knowing that the team will suck for awhile more. Yea. We'll suck for awhile, but as you said above," In order to win, we HAVE TO to do things differently. Even if it hurts and we don't like some decisions or their approach."
  16. Demmer does fit the timeline. As mentioned earlier, his Bubble Demko performance shouldn't be forgotten. That being said, he's somewhat damaged goods by his injury issue. Off course that doesn't mean he won't be lights out for us when he returns. If we are to keep him, then he shouldn't be rushed. Let's get him 100% healthy and back to playing shape. We keep on with our backup tandem. No choice. Somewhere it was mentioned that Demmer doesn't want to be in Van anymore. Whether or not this is true or rumour, I dunno. If that's the case, then we've gotta trade him. Last thing we need is another Schmidt, Holtby or Hamonic cancer in the locker room. Everything with regards to the plan with Demmer when he was all the talk back in covid years was on the upswing; #1 goalie of the future, young, cap friendly contract....what's not to like!?!?!?!?!?!! Dude's awesome. A bit of a setback with regards to post injury and performance. So what. Healing completely from injury takes time. Not just physically, but mentally too. I hope what I'm hearing regarding his unhappiness and wanting to leave isn't driven in any way with the medical staff, if you will (Re-Tanner Pearson debacle!) but......well? It could be. In short he's been, and as far as I know, still is part of the plan for our future success. If he doesn't wanna be here though.....well......c'est la vie!
  17. Definitely typical of Canuck organizations now and years past.. Van hasn't been crowned the Goalie Graveyard for nothing. I imagine post Luongo type Goalie acquisitions till we start contending. Then we go out and get our man!
  18. I'm okay if we lose Demmer. Seems we're stocking up on forwards and not addressing our D issues anytime soon. Unofficially, we're tanking. Bedard sweepstake anyone? I'm guessing the "plan" if you will, is coming to fruition....that is.....get younger, get more draft picks, stock up and what seemingly is depth forwards, and then go for the jugular! A RD prospect of note, AND a top 3 draft pick. Let's make it happen Canuck brass!
  19. I echo my poll vote.........NONE!!!!! Hold off on captains for now. Let's wait till we get a more established roster and some playing time together. I'm sure management aren't finished making moves for the season. More to come.........
  20. Anyone need a winger? I think we can offload some. Don't you?
  21. I went with no cap. To me no one really stands out as cap material. Maybe not even Bo. I like Bo, don't get me wrong. But I thought he was given the captaincy too early. He was touted as the next one after Henrik. Certainly he's done an admirable job at it. And there's no denying his demeanour is well suited for such. Especially with regards to interviews. In his tenure as a Canuck, you could say he's a heart 'n' soul guy. Just what you want for a cap. However, losing as much as we have with him as cap.....well...................it certainly can affect ones psyche. Though he's remained a consummate professional throughout, well.........maybe he's lost interest somewhat. A change is probably a good thing for him and the club.
  22. Said "cockiness" and "showboating" goes on all the time in the NBA. More so in the regular season. As far as in the NHL? Why not!!!!!! Between the legs, off the skate to the stick, on your knees, whatever; Savardian spin-orama, Forsbergian move, toe drag, MICHIGAN........... I'm all for it. I mean....why shouldn't it be allowed. Do you want it to be a penalty? What will they call it.....travelling???!?!?!??!? Seriously. So long as said goal comes from the stick (or sometimes a body part, but that's another discussion!) I wouldn't see it as an issue with the NHL. I look to the day when a goal is scored via a Michigan in front of the net. That'd be more impressive to be sure!
  23. Well.........Burning it all down is pretty drastic. I really don't believe that will happen. Ownership and management like the young core too much. (Petey, Huggy, Demmer.) And the moves they made for the players they acquired, though not star quality, have definitely made the Canucks younger. Just what they said they'd do. So.......... Sure. Keep BoHo. The problem is, HOW?!?!?!?!?? And also, does the management feel as you do about him? If no, then they've a monumental task to pay to keep him. And keeping Bo would mean we'd need to get a legit top grade centre ( Bedard....Yea baby!) that'll give coach staff some options to place Bo 2nd or 3rd centre, and even play some wing. Where I think he'd be pretty effective. If yes, then trade his ass away to the highest bidder; a roster player, a decent prospect or two (A D-Man, forward. Doesn't matter.) and definitely draft picks. Unless we can get a Noah Dobson or reasonable facsimile in return, I don't think there's any hurry this season to get a RD for Huggy. That can happen in the off season in a couple of years after trading the Garlands, Boesers, Millers, Pearsons, etc, for prospects and drafts to offload for what we really need/want.
  24. Doom 'n' Gloom. Nuthin' new here. That being said................ Management group has got to be stirring big time now. I'm sure there's something up at deadline time. I feel the 2023 off season will be a doozy! I'm preparing myself for both positives and negatives. Positives being more draft picks, more cap space, more depth, younger core; negatives being the loss of beloved players, growing pains, losing seasons............. The Canucks, more so than other teams in NHL history, depend on top notch goaltending. Always. That's why Vancouver is known as the Goalie Graveyard. Nuthin' new, but always relevant. My point is, Demmer might be in the mix trade wise. I love Demo, but seriously If we're to tank, then sub par goaltending will get us there. Trade Demmer for assets that'll benefit us for the near future.
  25. Looking' for this kid to be the next Juice. I mean, Juice took a few years to get the call up with the big club. I believe Woo is on schedule in his eventual call up to the big club. Hope it happens. I'm routing for him to make it.
