  1. I'm tired of kicking the can down the road. I want to start winning right now, or at least try to. I don't want any major trades unless it makes us better immediately. What we really need is more toughness. Gretzky had his Semenko and that's the kind of player that you need Petey, y'know to get your mojo back. People tend to forget or downplay the importance of a player like Semenko in the success of a player like Gretzky, especially in "today's NHL". The thing is that it isn't that different. NHL playoffs are still an all out war and we need the muscle to back up the skill. The thing is that it's the skill part that is the hardest to acquire. And we've already done that. We lack the muscle to back it up, but that's relatively easy to acquire. We need more backbone, not more "prospects". We have lots of good young talent right now. We shouldn't be throwing in the towel just yet. I don't think that Myers is untouchable, if we get a good return then fine. But he's a useful piece right now and I don't want to get any smaller. We need confidence now. We need to win. Now. Or at least die trying. We could still make the playoffs this year. Sure, it's a longshot but there's still lots of games left to go for it. We have to stop listening to the Eastern based media who treat us as nothing as a farm system for other teams and start winning some games ourselves. Now. Not later. Later, has been tried as a strategy. It doesn't do much for me. We could use some more players, sure, but the kind we want are the kind who will make other teams stop taking liberties with our already good crop of young skilled players. And those kinds of players usually aren't very expensive. Go Canucks Go!
  2. I agree with an earlier post that the NHL doesn't give a ... However if they actually wanted to do the ethical thing I would suggest dealing with it on a player by player basis. This is an unusual situation that could perhaps benefit from an unusual response. If Russians are willing to sign a statement condemning the war then they can stay. If they support Putin's completely illegitimate war then why should we hard working democratic citizens pay for their salaries and treat them like celebrities? Democracies don't have to eat themselves (i.e. allow anti-democratic forces to exist without repercussions). One could say that we should keep sports and politics separate but there comes a time when outrageous actions have to be called out and unusual steps must be taken. This is such a time. But hey, that's just a suggestion for people who care about ethics. That doesn't include the NHL or a lot of the general public.
  3. The only good reason to trade him is to save cap space so retaining any of his salary doesn't make any sense. Well, it makes sense for other teams but not for the Canucks. Can't we use a big right handed Dman who can play in all "positions" (didn't you mean situations?). Anyway we need to do deals that make the Canucks better not make other teams better. GCG!
  4. I disagree. I think that 8-0-1 was great. We just need to do it again. And again. There's nothing wrong with winning. It's losing that sucks. GCG!
  5. As much as that sucked, it was actually pretty skillful to tip it out of mid air like that. But no worries, let's get it back boys. GCG!
  6. This team is finally looking like it has some backbone to go with its skill. That's a good combination. I like it. GCG!
  7. Hockey writers all seem to agree: Vancouver is nothing more than a farm system for "successful" teams. I question the assumption that Miller needs to be traded at all. I think that we should start trying to win some games ourselves. Now. I know this is an unpopular opinion but so be it. GCG!
  8. At first I was surprised and wondered why anyone would attack a Vancouver tradition. But then I found out why and I understand and I support the women who did it. "Gassy Jack" is well known as a Vancouver icon but I don't think the fact that he was abusing a 12 year old is. It needs to be known. The women who did this act of vandalism are justified in my opinion. The days of providing cover for pedophiles are over (hopefully).
  9. Hey man, I'm not the one who keeps saying that we can't win with the team we have. You've misunderstood me. I'm simply saying that we should try more to win with the players we have. Now, not later. That seems to be a very controversial opinion. So be it, but you don't have to be insulting. Maybe it sounds strange to think that we can actually win hockey games now if we try hard enough because it isn't what TSN is saying. I swear that this fan base wants to lose sometimes just to be proven right that they predicted that we are going to lose. GCG!
  10. I'm out. Having a discussion with people who have made up their minds that we are losers is exhausting. GCG!
  11. We have the players we have. I want to try to win games now instead of constantly shuffling the deck hoping for a better hand at some vague time in the future. Or in other words "yes" I do think we have good enough players to win, just the wrong attitude. Petey is a great player who lacks confidence. That just about sums up our team (and our fan base). Give him some protection out there and I think he'll do fine (muscle is cheap, it's skill that's expensive). Demko is a great Canuck and we shouldn't be embarrassed that he's playing well for us. We should in fact get behind him and try to get him some wins. Now! GCG!
  12. It doesn't matter why he's here, he's here now and he's producing for us so obviously we need to ship him out as soon as possible. Maybe I'm wrong but I assume that players are here to play hockey. We need to play more hockey and play less General Managing. GCG! P.S. - I agree on one thing, this thread is dumb. I regret even participating, but I'm here now. I won't be for long.
  13. We play better with the team we have. Instead of constantly turning over personnel we need a new attitude, one of not giving up. The fans have already given up on the season when there are still plenty of games left to win. We have good enough players to win just not enough confidence. I hope the players keep playing. The business side of things gets way too much attention. GCG!
  14. We've been optimistically building for the future for 50 years. Call me impatient but I want to start winning now. I say offer Miller a new contract, add a bit more muscle on cheap contracts, and start beating up teams right now. All it takes is more confidence and less listening to the media shills for the big money teams. We have the talent, we just don't have any confidence. We could still win the Stanley Cup this year if we really wanted to. And even if we didn't, just pretending that we could would be a good thing for our sagging confidence. We have to stop acting like a farm system for the more competitive teams and start winning some games ourselves. GCG!
  15. OK. I wasn't trying to be critical of your post. I was agreeing. JT is an impact player. I don't get all these calls for trading him when he could and should be a good player for us. It seems to me that a lot of people are simply parroting the eastern biased media who make it sound like he has to be traded to a contender. We're not the farm team for other teams to win the cup. We need to start winning ourselves. And that means keeping our productive players, like JT. GCG!
  16. What I don't get is why can't he be that player for us? Why do we have to be a doormat to help other teams win the cup? Why can't we keep our best players to help us win games? Yeah, cap, blah, blah, blah. It's the same cap for everyone. Other teams manage to not only keep their stars but constantly acquire new ones. Why can't we keep enough quality players to start winning ourselves? The eastern based sports media treats us as if we're just a feeder system for the more established teams but why do we fans have to buy into that narrative? GCG!
  17. How about we keep JT Miller in Vancouver and try to actually win some games? Helping other teams win the cup just doesn't do it for me. For the record I can't stand OV. You can say you like him, but to say that "Vancouver loves OV" is a bit of an overreach. What do you base that on? I'm a Gretzky fan myself. GCG!
