While I wholeheatedly support the BLM movement, what precedent is set by stopping all sports when an issue like this comes up? There are several other social issues that are just as important. For example, child kidnapping and people trafficking, sexual abuse and related oppression, epidemic levels of drug overdose, local poverty and starvation, and these are just a few local issues. Go international and the number of issues explodes exponentially! Does this mean that sports should boycott games for each and every child abducted? or each person who dies from an overdoes on tainted drugs? for any person who is raped or sexually abused? All of the issues are just as deserving of the support. We would never have professional sports again, in my opinion, if boycotts are to be used with the same level discretion.

@Cramarossa Do you have kids? Have you had families close to you with children abducted? or lured (attempts on their abduction)?

The reality of life is that there are too many issues in the world for an individual or small group of people to take meaningful action to address all of them. I figure if you asked any of the players protesting today about the issues you listed that most if not all of them would consider them worthy of our attention. That being said, I don't find whataboutism to be useful in this context. It just leads to people shaming others for not doing enough.
It's obviously not reasonable to expect athletes to boycott their respective sports every time something goes wrong in the world, but I would still prefer that people at least try to bring about positive change, even if has to be done imperfectly or hypocritically. IMO, it's better than doing nothing.
