  1. It's the day before the draft, and to save you guys some time, I spent hours spying in other teams' forums (I made sure to shower afterwards) to find out who they want to draft. So, without further ado, here's what I found. Everyone seems to want to draft this kid whose initials are BPA. A close second is the player whose initials are RHD. I'm not sure what's wrong with his skills, but everybody seems hesitant to draft the player whose initials are LHD. Apparently, the player whose initial is "C" is a lot better than the one whose initials are CC who is better than the one whose initials are CCC. We should definitely not draft the player whose initial is "G" in the first round as he should be available in later rounds. You guys can thank me later.
  2. I guess it takes two to tango. What would we need to give up in addition to the pick to get 2 players in the 25-30? Arizona has picks 27 and 32. Minnesota has picks 19 and 24.
  3. Pickering sounds like a bright kid: https://www.tsn.ca/mark-masters-a-giraffe-at-times-owen-pickering-brings-plenty-of-upside-to-nhl-draft-1.1821381
  4. And your source or proof that the expansion draft was the biggest factor and not Markstrom's salary demands? You know what - we've thread-crapped enough here. And for every quote or article I put out, all you respond with are your own thoughts which while plausible are completely based on unsubstantiated claims. You gotta put out some sources. Otherwise, this is what makes for a completely unproductive conversation.
  5. Maybe you can show us your sources for your claims below: Markstrom leaving had nothing to do with Markstrom's salary demands. Canucks didn't actually try to sign Markstrom due to the expansion I suppose if you say that you are Jim Benning; then, I will immediately concede. I can only go with what Jim Benning said - which was he wanted to sign Markstrom all throughout that off-season. https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/canucks-gm-jim-benning-makes-up-his-mind-on-markstrom-vs-demko-dilemma
  6. Mark #$@! Messier putting us over the hump. Preferring Jake Virtanen over Nylander. I didn't think JT Miller was going to be this good.
  7. I think you're confused. Here's the timeline: Article was from September 8, 2020. Markstrom signed with Calgary October 9, 2020. That means that article is 1 month before Markstrom left. Expansion draft protection list for the Canucks was released July 18, 2021. Expansion draft happened July 21, 2021. You're saying that we still had Markstrom during the expansion draft??? Markstrom was in the Calgary Flames' expansion protection list. We're on the Canucks' forum here. Are you a Flames fan?
  8. I would love to see the Canucks pick one of the following strong skating centers at 15: Savoie, Lambert, Kasper. Not sure if any of them will be available there though.

  10. Iirc, the Canucks actually wanted to sign Markstrom but couldn't afford him as they were too close to the cap.
  11. Ok, so which Tampa player's will take his turn to go to LTIR?
  12. If we still had Juolevi, we could have traded #5 for #4 in that year's draft. I'm pretty sure we're not the only fan base who regretted passing on Matthew Tkachuk that year,
  13. Oops, that's right. He was only the President of Hockey Ops at Carolina (same as here). So maybe that's a good thing then because as GM, his drafting record with the Penguins was spotty.
  14. JIm Rutherford became GM of the Penguins in 2014 up to 2021. Here are the Penguins' draft picks over the years: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr00007475.html . The names of the players he drafted are underwhelming, but do note that he never had any high picks - he only had 2 first rounders - and in fact, he didn't have a lot of picks as they kept trading them. He was also GM of the Hurricanes from 1994 to 2014. Here are their draft picks over the years: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr00005154.html . Definitely better, but not necessarily world beaters, imho. So should be interesting this year.
  15. I thought the general consensus was that Benning drafted some good players (at least in the early rounds) but the problem was that he kept trading his high draft picks? My concern is that Pittsburgh's cupboard seems to be even more bare than ours so I'm not sure how optimistic I should be with JR's drafting...
  16. I completely forgot that the Avs got goalie Darcy Kuemper at the start of this season from the Coyotes. Burnaby Joe Sakic is turning out to be just as good an executive as he was a player.

I think Keumper was a lot like Niemi for Chicago.

The won in spite of goaltending imo. Rare occurrence in the playoffs

Kuemper was fairly decent in Minnesota early on and then had a really good but short run with the Kings.  He then had a good stretch with the Coyotes through the Bubble Playoffs and then was pretty bad in 2020-2021.

I think Kuemper is one of those goalies that is good enough to backstop a very good team in front of him.  He might still a game or two during a playoff run, but can't be relied on to steal a series.  Made sense for Colorado to go with Kuemper instead of Grubauer, if only for some cap savings.  Obviously it worked out perfectly for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Av's consider running with Francouz next season if Kuemper's contract demands are too high.  They have a lot of cap space this summer but also a lot of players to re-sign (or replace).

  17. JT Miller signs for $7.5 mil x 6 years (wishful thinking I know).
  18. Too Good To Go. I highly recommend this. Even more with inflation driving up food prices.

  19. Had a few injuries. This past season, from what I've read, he has finally gotten back on track and improved on his deficiencies. Almost a point per game in the AHL.
