  1. Imho, Petey and Zegras should be included in the conversation.
  2. Ok, I'll do the obligatory JT Miller post...hopefully Miller's agent doesn't average Tage's PPG the past 3 years and use that as a comparable. If I were the Canucks, I'd say, "well, Tage is much younger and his stick is longer than JT's so, but if you want, we can give JT the same deal".
  3. Would have loved to see the video of the Habs' draft room last year when they drafted Mailloux.
  4. Statsny's $1.5M salary sets the bar for what JT Miller should expect to get paid when he reaches 36 years old?
  5. From the Islanders' forum, it looks like it's $4 mil a year. It's funny how some of them are mentioning "take that, Canucks" (well, "take that" is the PC version of what they're saying).
  6. Not bad - only took 7 responses before the first JT Miller trade post.
  7. Just imagine how many pages this thread will have if JT is not traded until the Trade Deadline. Every single trade proposal will somehow manage to include JT. And if the Canucks decide to keep him past the Deadline, we may reach 10,000 pages...
  8. I guess I don't watch any Rangers' games, but can someone clue me in on why there's so much love for Zibanejad over everybody else who's below him on that list?
  9. Ah, but maybe Vancouver gets a second-round pick for somebody signing Travis Green to be their head coach...wait, what did I just say???
  10. Was just watching highlights of JT this past season. He really is a pretty good player. He deserves whatever contract he gets. Hopefully, it's with us.
  11. I wonder if there's a way to check what percentage of threads in the past 3 months ended up getting side-tracked (even briefly) by a JT Miller-related post. ^_^

  12. Huberdau's agent to Treliving after getting traded to the Flames when both Gaudreau and Tkachuk said no to the Flames' 10M+ offer:
  13. How much? 9M AAV for 8 years? Which team's actually going to be willing to do that? Who has the cap space next year and is willing to make him their top paid forward for the next few years? Those should be our potential trading partners.
  14. The one thing about comparables is that that's all it is - a data point. If JT Miller is looking for 10M+ AAV, he needs to find a team that's actually willing and able to commit that much of their cap to him. He'll likely be the top player on that team, and the other forwards will end up using him as their comparable when their own contract expires. Who do we really think will give him that much of their cap space and make him the top paid forward on their team?
  15. Huberdeau did not look like a 10 mil a year player during the playoffs, and he's not young...
  16. In the past month, I've heard about shortage of lifeguards, home doctors, nurses, airport workers, programmers, dishwashers, security guards. Where did all the workers go?

I feel it's a combination of things (also add ferry workers to the list)....

The expense here in the city...people can't afford to live here and it's impacting businesses. Our greedy powers that be think it's ok for corporations and foreign investors to gobble up property, flip and speculate but this is what happens. You don't have people "living" here, you have people parking money here and checking in/out like it's an atm. Much of which is laundered $$ and numbered corporations with no record of where the cash payments are coming from.

My ex neighbour (can't stand him) is a good example of all that's wrong here...came here and paid cash for properties (yes, more than one) and is now trying to rent the place next door for....$4,200/month. It's a 50+ year old building and he's done his own shoddy reno's. He's a money monger and the latest tenants told me what he's now asking. They paid $2200/month but it was being increased to $2500 so they said see ya. He and I had a few spats when he lived here as he NO respect for his neighbours. Used to trample on my ferns/plants because he couldn't reach his damn figs so he'd tromp on my side of the garden. Cares only about money...no sense of community.

COVID also impacted things, as people re-thought what's important in life and working for scraps became a bit lower on the list. Grinding it out. People could stay at home and collect CERB instead.

Also, as stated, people have been put at risk in the service industry due to maniacs with no manners or self restraint. Lashing out (especially over mask guidelines, etc.).

It really is a combination of people retiring, competition for workers giving workers the option to try something different, and a lack of affordability in a lot of our cities.  A lot of people took advantage of the housing market to sell and make bank, and then move to rural, and either retire, or work from home with a better lifestyle bonus.  That in turn leads to housing affordability being a problem....everywhere.  There are so many homes being built, in a higher tax bracket, that when you have the choice to build, as a builder, a house that is expensive or affordable, you go to where the money is, which is tying up all of our house builders.  Then couple that with...not being able to afford housing, you just end up going round and round.  If BC Housing would just focus on housing, instead of social engineering, and pick a few places as up and coming and concentrate there, we'd be better off.  Then you provide financial relief for schooling, and places to live to do that schooling, for trades and services careers.  You chip away at the entire problem and move forward.  Which is the opposite of what our NDP government wants to do.

Always tried to joke about such bleak reality - but it's no laughing matter :^(

Globalization HAS been vunderbarr for well-positioned elites. & the other 99.9%? lifestyle-competition has become wayyy too pricey. The working class-poverty existence is basically under water, every step of the way.

& to this here layman, economists don't know/do shyte! What props up our own fiat currencies anyways? A question I'd been randomly asking folks over the past decade,+(approx). I fear we're about to alll go 1492-mode, & make a big, F***in' discovery in that realm.

As that currency-tsunami hits the plebs/hoi polloi, already the elites will have transitioned their ill-gotten gains into tangible assets, like farmland and pm's.

Every aspect seems outa' control. One will have to be mighty high up the food chain to avoid the coming pain.

  17. In the "What's your bold prediction for game 1 next season?" thread, my prediction was that JT, Brock, and Bo are all still on the team. Turns out it wasn't that bold after all. There has been so much desire for changes, but the reality is that JR's evaluation of some members of the team seems different from a lot of the people here: JT Miller - he thinks he's the best forward on the team (NOTE: even after seeing Petey's performance); his stated preference is to keep him CDC: many people want him traded Brock - JR stated that he wanted to keep him at a fair price, and he did CDC: many wanted him traded (often for what seemed like less productive players) Bo - JR said that Bo is the Captain of the team and wants to keep him; I personally suspect that Bo has kindly told management to try to keep JT and that's why his extension is not yet signed CDC: some people think he's not worthy of being a captain OEL - JR liked his play CDC: some want to dump his salary Poolman - JR said that when healthy, he's top 4 CDC: he's bottom 6 Motte, Lammikko, Highmore - none of them were re-signed CDC: we all loved them Lekkerimaki - JR and Allvin thinks they got a steal CDC: some of us are in a wait-and-see mode; we think he's a good shooter but not necessarily a star team - JR said that barring injuries, the Canucks should be a playoff team; it sounds like he thinks the Canucks' forwards (with JT) are good enough I wouldn't be surprised if JR and Allvin valued other players we've mentioned for trades (Garland, Hoglander, Pearson, Myers) more than what a lot of us do. If that's the case, I get it why they're waiting for the right deal. Me personally, I'm giving them until the start of the 2023-2024 season to evaluate how they put their stamp on the team.
  18. Apparently, Travis Green was considered for the Dallas Star' coaching job: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/former-canucks-coach-travis-green-dallas-stars
