[Signing] Capitals re-sign Tom Wilson
thrago replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The only problem is we are going to pay the mediocrity price first, hopefully, you can live 47 years pretty sure I wont make it. -
Colorado is mildly enthusiastic to pick JT Miller @Caboose

[Signing] Canes re-sign Aho 9.75x8
thrago replied to MeanSeanBean's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You can argue that Petey is worth more then Aho, but I think it would be hard to argue he is worth more than a million more, IMO. -
I'll take Colorado if it's still open.

Bennings terrible pro scouting and player analysis

I noticed the things you're talking about when PA took more of a leading role and JR stepped back. Roughly around late February. I'm really hoping they can figure a way to get out of their cap situation without dumping more picks if they can do I will have a lot more confidence moving forward. -

Bad stuff trading away way too many draft picks, and signing too many wingers to too much of our cap, we are over the cap going into the offseason, which I can't remember ever happening before. Head scratching any time JR opened his mouth for one but most importantly the terrible way they treated BB not only before they finally fired him but from the end of last season until they fired him. But I keep answering your questions, and you still keep avoiding telling me the amazing difference that they have made, I truly would like to know what it is? -

That was in response to you saying the difference they have made is amazing, which so far they haven't but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, as they have done some good things, Kuzi has been great, the Horvat trade was pretty good, the Hronek trade seems fair so far but we need to see how he does and more importantly what he re-signs for as well as Petey which is why I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt till the beginning of the 2024 season. What I'm seeing so far is some good stuff and some bad stuff and a head-scratcher. I didn't like them at all until they re-signed Kuzi and traded Bo, which made me lengthen the leash, but I would still like to know what this amazing difference you said they have made is? I'm certainly not rooting against PA, I definitely want him to succeed here. I like PA more than JR that's for sure and I'm glad he seems to have taken more control of the team. JR on the other hand I'm glad he's decided to talk less as he always seems to me like he thinks his Poop doesn't stink and it definitely does. As for Benning he did some good stuff and some bad stuff and in hindsight, he should have been fired before he got the chance to trade for OEL, which is a trade that just wreaks of a desperate GM throwing a hail Mary. -

I literally said I was giving them the benefit of the doubt till the start of the 2024 season. -

I'm not disputing that point, I'm just disputing Timrafan's claim that the difference has been amazing, and so far I'm not so sure about that. -

How is the difference amazing exactly? PA has traded a tonne of draft picks and we are in the worst salary cap situation we have ever been in? Not to mention the whole BB situation they completely flubbed. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt till the start of the 2024 season, once I see how they handle the EP and Hronek signings, but so far it's been pretty messy. -
We only know part of the equation, we know what we traded to get Hronek, which IMO was fair to slightly overpaid which is fine, the pain is going to come when we find out what assets we will lose in order to re-sign and keep him. That part I feel is going to be ugly.

Playoff games are such a different animal

This is off-topic sorry, but whenever I see this one I can't help but watch it for a good 10 min or so. -
Brock really needs to take this offseason seriously, IMO he hasn't done so in a long time. He's had his reasons and I respect that, but those reasons are behind him now and he really needs to push himself. I used to be really excited to have him on our team but the last 4-5 seasons he's really stagnated as a hockey player. I'd really like to be excited to have Brock on the team cause he's an excellent hockey player again and not just because he is an excellent human being.

I think I'd be a little pissed about this if I was JR, gave someone and incredible opportunity a little over a year ago and they are actively looking for opportunities elsewhere already. Seems a little disrespectful to me.

I don't get too invested in the players anymore, as I find they are all (or most of them) just mercenaries anyways just looking for top dollar. But when I was a kid and say Bure would have said that my feelings would have been hurt for sure. So I feel bad for the kids that are Horvat fans, regardless of how he meant it or not, it wasn't a very well-thought-out answer.

[PGT] Nashville Predators at Vancouver Canucks | Mar. 06, 2023
thrago replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
This team has no pride every year until they are out of the playoffs, then they see picking 16th the same as winning the Cup. It's a joke that happens year after year. -
They only traded Horvat because they couldn't sign him if they had the money they would, but all they have done now is punt the problem one year down the road, Hronek might and probably will outperform his contract next year but he will be hard pressed to outperform his next one as will EP. If you want to win a CUP you need to have contracts that outperform their cost and the easiest way to do that is to have a steady stream of players on entry-level contracts. But the Canucks management always thinks it's special and can skip that step. The biggest problem Canuck management has is they can't wrap their heads around the Salary cap. They simply don't understand how it works and constantly back themselves in a corner, they are like children that don't understand that if they want this expensive toy for their birthday that means they can't get a bunch of other presents too. It's maddening, the sheer incompetence of it all. These guys talk like they understand the cap, but they don't plain and simple.
