Gollumpus
I'm thinking Parise is too expensive, unless there is some kind of massive front-end loading of the contract. Assuming the Canucks were to be able to acquire him his contract would affect the team sort of like this (using Jeff Carter as a substitute): CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m) Mason Raymond ($2.550m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m) Jannik Hansen ($1.500m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.666m) Raffi Torres ($1.100m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.100m) / Victor Oreskovich ($0.650m) Tanner Glass ($0.700m) DEFENSEMEN Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.500m) Keith Ballard ($4.200m) / Alexander Edler ($3.250m) Chris Tanev ($0.900m) / Aaron Rome ($0.750m) / Ryan Parent ($0.925m) GOALTENDERS Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Cory Schneider ($0.900m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,497,726; BONUSES: $850,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $802,274 The Canucks would have him until forever (and a day), but his deal doesn't have a NTC, and his age is similar to Kesler, so they could be a pair for a goodly number of years to come. regards, G. Millerdraft
Gulitti: Devils may be playing with fire with Parise Saturday, June 11, 2011 The Record Print | E-mail More than two months have passed since the Devils’ season ended without a playoff appearance and it’s been nearly eight weeks since general manager Lou Lamoriello said he’d try to re-sign Zach Parise, "as expeditiously as possible." Yet, Parise remains unsigned today and says, "nothing" has happened so far with his contract. While this raises questions about whether the Devils’ ownership situation (partners Mike Gilfillan and Ray Chambers want to sell their share) is impacting business, the intention appears clear. Lamoriello would not discuss the matter Friday, but the Devils likely will file for team-elected arbitration before next week’s deadline, which is 5 p.m. Wednesday or Friday if there is a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals. That would prevent Parise from fielding offer sheets from other teams if he’s still unsigned on July 1, when he’d become a restricted free agent. The Devils and Parise’s agents could continue to negotiate after that and if they can’t agree on a long-term deal, he’d still be locked up for 2011-12 with a one-year arbitration award. That also would leave Parise only a year away from unrestricted free agency, however, and risk hurting his feelings with what’s said in the arbitration hearing. That undoubtedly would include mentioning the now-healed knee injury that limited Parise to 13 games in 2010-11. Parise says he’s prepared for it all. "We talked about that with my agents," Parise said. "I guess you kind of have to look at it as a player has rights, the team has rights. If that’s what they want to do, that’s what they want to do. Is it a big deal? No. I guess we’ll see if it happens." The Devils are playing with fire, though, if they intend to put the screws to Parise, a homegrown player beloved by fans and favored by teammates to be their future captain. The salary cap might go down in 2012-13 if the owners get their way in the next CBA, but pinching pennies with Parise will look odd after giving Ilya Kovalchuk $20 million more (total) than his next best offer last summer. Armada
I'd much rather have Parise over Carter. Parise and Kesler already have some chemistry after being on the same line during the Olympics. Not to mention if we made our 2nd line . Parise - Kesler - Higgins, then it would be the all American line. Its gonna involve moving around players to clear up cap but once its done we'll have an even better team, also with the cap potentially going up to $63.5 Million it gives us plenty of room Trades: To New Jersey Cory Schneider Keith Ballard Mason Raymond To Vancouver Zach Parise Bryce Salvador 2012 3rd round pick During the draft: To any team Mikael Samuelsson 2011 1st Round Pick To Vancouver Higher 1st Round Pick Signings Zach Parise: $6,500M Christian Ehrhoff: $5,000M Kevin Bieksa: $4,000M Chris Higgins: $2,000M Raffi Torres: $1,500M Maxim Lapierre: $1,200M Jannik Hansen: $0,900M Thomas Greiss: $0,750M Victor Oreskovich: $0.675M 2011-2012 FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m) Zach Parise ($6.500m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Chris Higgins ($2.000m) Raffi Torres ($1.500m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m) / Jannik Hansen ($0.900m) Aaron Volpatti ($0.612m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.200m) / Victor Oreskovich ($0.675m) DEFENSEMEN Alexander Edler ($3.250m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($5.000m) Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.000m) Bryce Salvador ($2.900m) / Chris Tanev ($0.900m) Aaron Rome ($0.750m) GOALTENDERS Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Thomas Greiss ($0.750m) SALARY CAP: $63,500,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,820,833; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,029,167 With the result of this. Everyone gets a raise, you get a veteran tough defensemen on the 3rd pairing with Tanev and an amazing 2nd line with Kesler centering Parise, who can manage 40+ goals or 90+ points, and Chris Higgins who proved himself that he's an excellent player who can manage 40-50+ points. The team only gets better.

Armada
I think this is a case of over valuing our players and under valuing Zach Parise.. This guy is a legitimate puck hawk and can be an easy 90 point player year in and year out. Look at the numbers he has put up with the Devils, a team who over the years has had a defence first mentality and zero legitimate puck moving defenceman. In my opinion, it would take ALOT to get Parise here... To New Jersey Devils Van 2011 1st rnd pick Mason Raymond Cory Schneider Cody Hodgson Yann Sauve To Vancouver Zach Parise 2011 3rd rnd pick
D-Money
Unless we're also offering an elite player (i.e. Kesler), we're not getting Parise.

BowTie
I was hoping Schneider, Ballard, and Raymond with a draft pick would be enough? Schneider proved he can play as a starter and with Brodeur retiring soon they don't have any great young goaltenders in their system to replace Brodeur. Schneider also has potential to become an elite goaltender after learning from Lou. Ballard is a top 4 defensemen who just didn't work out here in Vancouver. He's still extremely talented and the extra defensemen could help their struggling D. Raymond a young speedy forward who can join the 2nd line or 1st line on the LW is capable of scoring +20 goals and +60 points.

bleednucksblue
The thing is if MG does trade Cody, it may seem hypocritical since MG wants to develop players within the system and has stated that on numerous occassions. I understand Parise is a young talent, and personally I would love to have him even if we have to give up Cody, but from MG's point of view I don't think he can do that without looking like Brian Burke with the Kessel situation.
