Offseason Assessment and Plans

Canucks team has a lot of talent and are a constant threat every year to make a run to the finals. Unfortunately, they have experience heart breaking defeats the last two seasons. First losing to the newly crown Stanley Cup Champs, LA Kings, in the first round and game 7 to Boston, the year prior. There is an abundance of talent in the Organization –

Center:

Henrik Sedin – an elite center that has led the league in assists for the last three seasons and the only player to have scored at least 80 points the last four seasons.

Ryan Kesler – a shoot first center that plays hard minutes

Maxine Lapierre – an agitating center/winger that has the potential to contribute more offensively if he focuses more on playing hockey

Manny Malhotra – a checking center that is coming off a disappointing season after returning from a devastating eye injury. With a full summer to train, Manny is sure to return to form.

Wingers:

Daniel Sedin – still an elite scoring winger that missed significant time due to a concussion. He is bound to regain his form playing alongside his brother

Alex Burrows – perhaps the most underrated winger in the league. Over the last four seasons, he has registered 110 goals while adding 400 penalty min (only one other player has accomplished the same, Corey Perry)

David Booth – a fast power forward that had an off year after a trade from Florida. Expect a bounce back year from him playing alongside a natural player maker

Honorable mentions – Chris Higgins, Jannik Hansen (a smart gifted player with more to offer. Teammates describe him as an amazing player in practice)

Vancouver is not far off. Its goal is to get bigger, younger and stronger. Furthermore its offseason needs are a true #1 Dman and a natural playmaking center. The good news is that the organization has youth with size & skill that are potentially ready to provide serviceable minutes in the NHL – Zack Kassian, Nicklas Jensen

With two bargaining chips, Luongo and Schneider, the team is bound to add missing pieces via the trade route. Potential offseason moves that will vastly improve the team and its ability to contend for the cup again are as follows –

  1. A trade with Vancouver’s favourite trading partner, Florida

Vancouver acquires23rd overall pick in 2012, Erik Gudbranson (6-5 210), Shawn Matthias (6-4 220), Stephen Weiss (5-11 190)

Florida acquires Roberto Luongo, Vancouver’s 2nd round pick, Alberts

  1. A trade with Nashville for the rights to Shea Webber. Shea a BC native can be lured back home. If his desire is to play in Vancouver as rumors indicate, Nashville gets some assets for him.

Nashville acquires Vancouver’s 1
st
round pick, Keith Ballard, Mason Raymond, Bill Sweat
  1. Sign Shea Weber to an average $6 million cap hit per year. Resign Veteran Sami Salo. Add depth by resigning Aaron Volpatti, Steven Pinizzotto, Mancari & or Bitz. Sign a reliable veteran backup tender

Vancouver Depth & paring that allows the team to roll four potent lines, each with size, some youth, and speed. No traditional line label of 1-2-3-4 etc.

Forwards:

Daniel Sedin – Henrik Sedin – Yannik Hansen

Alex Burrows – Ryan Kesler – Nicklas Jensen

David Booth – Stephen Weiss – Zack Kassian

Chris Higgins – Manny Malhotra – Maxine Lapierre

Shawn Matthias

Call ups: Jordan Schroeder, Dale Weise, Aaron Volpatti, Pinizzotto, Mancari, Bitz

Defense:

Edler – Shea Weber

Hamhius – Bieksa

Erik Gudbranson – Sami Salo

Chris Tanev – Marc-Andre Gragnani

Call ups: Yann Sauve, Connauton

Goal

Schneider

Veteran Backup

Call up: Lack

Draft: with the 23rd pick draft Henrik Samuelsson

I'd take Weiss, Matthias and a 3rd for Lu. Not sure Dale Tallon would take that, but worth a try. Plus sign Garrison.

Twins - Booth

Burr - Weiss - Kes

Higgins - Matthias - Hansen (potent 3rd line, can shut down or attack)

Manny - Lapierre - big boy (Bitz/ Weise/ Kassian)

my mind = blown...

seriously.. blown..

has Nicklas Jensen even played an NHL game before and you wanna stick him on the 2nd line?

and according to AV, our 3rd line is our "Checking" line. You'd want David Booth, a scorer, to be apart of our checking line? Whaaaaaaat is goingggggggg onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
