Pears
They can still move Yakupov to get an elite d-man prospect as well. Lots of options for Edmonton.
Danthecanucksfan
They just need a clear cut #1 in net and in the back end, then theres nothing that can stop them.
Karlsson`s Flo
Anyone else think the Oilers can make it into the playoffs this year?
Nancouver
Minnesota's paying $20 mill for two players so $24 mill for 4 seems like a pretty good deal

Pears
If you had bothered to read the post by Oilers9977 above, you'd not look half as daft as you do having written that. Great read Oilers - add in some more top prospects from the next 1/2 drafts, and that team could be a monster in 2015/16.
Greene02
I'm not sure if I would laugh or cry if there was a lockout and the Oilers got the 1st overall pick Hall - RNH - Eberle Yakupov - Gagner - MacKinnon I'm shuddering at the thought of that top six in 5 years. mangosteens
Did they both include no trade clauses? The question is not whether the Oilers can keep Eberle, Hall, Nuge, and Yakupov, but are those the players they SHOULD build with to win.
elvis15
... Looking at those ten teams, three spend more than the $24M (Wild, Rangers, Penguins), two spend within about a million of it (Hawks, Sharks), and five spend below it by more than a million (Canucks, Blues, Flyers, Bruins, Kings). All things considered, it's actually not that weird to sink $20M+ in your top four forwards as seven of these ten teams do it. The argument has been made that tying up that much cap space into a group of forwards will result in the rest of your roster being garbage and that hasn't necessarily proven true. ... MoneypuckOverlord
Yakupov and Hopkins will be getting those amounts in 3-4 years. Of course, a Good gm wouldn't look at those problems, at this point, as it's 3 years from now. Down the road they will have more then 4 6 million dollar players. Greene02
If he keeps trending up this could be a very good deal. The only players 23 or younger that had a better PPG average than Eberle(0.97) last season were Giroux(1.19), Stamkos(1.18) and Tavares(0.99). The next closest winger was Hall(0.87). The next closest pure right wingers were Pat Kane(0.80) and then a big drop off to Voracek(0.63). ...and Stamkos was the only player 23 or younger that scored more goals than Eberle last season as well. Both players were only 21 years old.
Wilbur
What happens when Yakupov and The Nuge need new contracts? Are they honestly gonna pay 24m+ For 4 Players? Don't forget about Schultz and the other young guns on that team... I really like the way Edmonton has built their team from the draft...but I see a Chicago-esque collapse in their future. cdubuya
People have this notion were the only teams players sign discounts on to win. Give edm 5 years and then look at what a steal this is. Nice to see that the young guns wanna win together. Nice for oiler fans at least.
morrissex95
The Edmonton Oilers have a terrible blue line and bottom six. They're also probably the softest team in the NHL with Nugent-Hopkins, Hemsky, Horcoff, Gagner, Paajarvi and Schultz getting knocked off the puck very easily. Gagner, Paajarvi, Omark, etc. should go on the market for some defensive help.
elvis15
I don't know if all those players should, but they certainly have a level of redunancy in their young top 6/9 forward positions. They aren't going to find much via trade that will bolster their top 6 or their top 4 D as your suggesting unless they move something significant though.
