Reason our forwards look average...

Take a look at the majority of our forwards. What is their best attribute? Burrows, Hansen, Higgins, Lapierre, Kesler, Weise, etc.

The best attribute of all these players is work ethic. Which is great, in the regular season. If your collection of forwards is harder working than the opposition, they will contribute.

The problem is; they can't elevate their game in the playoffs. If you give it 100 percent in the regular season, there isn't another gear in the playoffs. There is no such thing as 110 percent.

Its fine having a few of these players; yet it needs to be balanced with high-end skill. You can't have "hard work" as the defining attribute of all your players. You need a game plan that can emphasize the skills of other players. With this team, you need to take advantage of Raymonds speed. Kassians size.

You need a player that has game-breaking skill in traffic like Hossa. A guy who can take over a game with brute strength like Torres, or Dustin Penner. This is what makes the difference in a playoff series.

The Canucks have too much of one type of player style. I understand Vigneaults strategy; which was to create the perfect PP and PK units. His line selection was great when he had the tools. Malhotra and Kesler for defensive zone face-offs, etc.

I don't blame Vigneault for how the Canucks fared this year. He just didn't have enough tools within the roster to take over any aspect of the game. You can try to blame the refs, the face-offs, or whatever, but in the end, without a definite strength on the team, it was inevitable.

AV has plenty of tools to work with, maybe not Stanley Cup calibre, but cmon, we got sweeped in the 1st round. There is plenty of blame to put on AV. When has this idiot ever called a timeout to inspire this team or calm them down? How many leads of we blown? However, I do agree that we have too many players who play a similar game.

Actually, I disagree, OP. The reason that he had guys like Manny and Max, along with the Weise's, Hansen's, etc. were to handle the tough defensive minutes so guys like Kes, the Twins and Burr could play more in the offensive zone. However, that mixture got disrupted with Manny going down, while even the supposed increase in firepower with Roy coming didn't help our offensive guys (Raymond, Hansen, Higgins, along with the guys in the Top 6), who themselves sputtered and died offensively.

Moreover, there's more to it than just lack of scoring. The defensive role taken by Manny wasn't replaced by Roy, and the guys were lacking in discipline which led to bad penalties. Add to that fluky goaltending and there's no way to win.

I do agree that the team needs to be less hard-work based (Kes and Burr are glamorized checkers), though the Sedins don't cut it anymore either. Problem is though, this team has very little cap space to bring in guys, and I hope that by the time they've switched the league wouldn't go back to being governed by ruffians. :P

Need a guy like torres on the bottom 6 and legit goal scorers/sniper on top 6. Enough of third liners pretending to be 2nd liners to play with kesler.

trade higgins. Likeable guy but only good in regular season. Been a while since this guy even scored in the playoffs.

Do not re-sign raymond, roy.

Need to really revamped this roster.

and trade up at the draft!

So, the Sedins don't generate offence because they lack an aggressive mentality, but these guys don't generate offence because all they have is an aggressive mentality via work ethic?

Why do so many posters feel the need to make their own thread on what's wrong/how to fix things? Why not just vent in the PGT like everyone else, or go outside and enjoy the sun?

I don't agree with op. the reason the players looked average Is coaching. the lines were mixed to be even across the board. not to mention their mandate was to stay out of the box. this is the playoffs| play hard while keeping your stick down, but play hard. this team was neutered by the coach.
