Canada Hockey Place
How about Dale Hunter? He coached WAS over BOS last season. Didn't get a cup as a player. Good chance in VAN.

Angry Goose
John Stevens will no doubt wind up being a Gills crony/former client. He doesn't seem to be on anyone else's radar as an NHL head coaching candidate but Gillis'. I always considered him a washout in Philly. This really feels like the beginning of a downward spiral. Spare me your feelings. Given Stevens resume and what other players say about him, I would like to see him get a shot.
J529
Spare me your feelings. Given Stevens resume and what other players say about him, I would like to see him get a shot. His resume which consists of: Winning AHL Championship with a stacked team NHL Record in Philadelphia Regular Season : 122-111-34 NHL Playoff Record in Phiadelphia 11-12 Far from a stellar resume. His Playoff Record is exactly the same as AV. .500 He didn't have much success in Philly, so what makes Gillis or anyone else think he would do any better here. Jack McIlhargey endorses Stevens. That's a real ringing endorsement.
J529
Fire Gillis and bring in Brian Burke. Hire Tortorella as coach lol Burke or Milbury could do no worst then Gillis. Torts as coach with Burke or Milbury would be interesting to say the least.
J529
Can't say that i'm surprised but still why is Gillis interviewing Joe Sacco. I can understand Arniel getting a look being he's in the Canucks organization.

Before that he was considered another defensive trap specialist. Sometimes guys just need the right environment and people surrounding them to succeed. wallstreetamigo
Can we at least stop playing moneyball on things that are not restricted by a salary cap? Arniel, Sacco, Gulatzan......come on. Get a real coach that can at least back up their claims with some kind of evidence that they know how to win something when it counts. Anything else is just asking for this entitled core group to tune the guy out thinking they know best or the same BS we saw with AV.

Unless these guys are being interviewed and considered for assistant/associate coach positions, I really don't get the thinking on interviewing these guys. Are any of these guys going to be interviewed: Ruff Tortorella Tippett (Once his contract is up and depending if he becomes availables and decides not to re-up in Phoenix) Gillis stated they will be interviewing 4-5 more candidates, which I hope include the guys i've listed. J529
Another thing. Why would Gillis bring back Eakins for a second interview? Waste of time after seeing what transpired with him being hired in Edmonton. It was said on HNIC Hot Stove Eakins preferred a young team over a older core team and that Edmonton and Colorado were two teams that he had interest in going too. Surely it had to come up during the first interview with Eakins about that. Healy said Canucks dropped the ball and totally agree with that. I didn't want Eakins, but just the way this all transpired, doesn't make Gillis look very good. Twice now Oilers have gotten one over on Canucks. Schultz and now Eakins. I didn't want Eakins, but just the way this all transpired, doesn't make Gillis look very good. Twice now Oilers have gotten one over on Canucks. Schultz and now Eakins. To be fair, maybe Gillis decided he did not want Eakins for some reason. Considering he was widely speculated to be the front runner, maybe Gillis had doubts and wanted a second sit down with him to see if he could scratch that itch only to find out it reinforced his belief that Eakins was not the right guy for the job. Or it could be that Eakins did want to go to a younger team, which seems reasonable too. I am glad we did not hire Eakins as head coach though. I didn't want Eakins, but just the way this all transpired, doesn't make Gillis look very good. Healy also said that Bylsma would make a good candidate for the NYRangers coaching position because the Penguins and the Rangers play the same style/have the same system. And then there's his comment that Datsyuk lacks natural talent but is simply a hard worker. Healy said the Canucks dropped the ball? Perhaps the Canucks aren't playing ball. I personally am not concerned whatsoever. I'd be disappointed if they signed a coach before Tippett's intentions are clear.
MJDDawg
John Shannon on Sportsnet figures the Canucks will "settle" for Lindy Ruff. His choice of words.
ftmN
I would have rathered Eakins as an assistant to Tippet or the like, as far fetched as that reality sounds. Hoping MG takes his time and makes the right decision for our group, expecting something early July.
DeNiro
John Shannon on Sportsnet figures the Canucks will "settle" for Lindy Ruff. His choice of words. What a goof. I'm not for signing Ruff, but any team could do alot worse than Ruff. It's hardly settling to hire a coach with his experience.
Westcoasting
You're forgetting Babcock took the Ducks to the Finals in 2003. Are you comparing Sacco to Babcock? No i am specifically referring to his time with the ducks... after Burke didn't offer him a good contract, the Wings grabbed him and the rest is history. At the time he was thought to be a trap specialist only.
