If there's an expansion draft, who do you protect?

Lack

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Shinkaruk Kesler Kassian

Jensen Horvat Hansen

Hamhuis

Garrison

Tanevd

Eler - then trade him for anything

Bieksa - almost would rather have Corrado but Bieksa has more value in a trade ..

NON ELC's

Lack

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Booth Kesler Kassian

Higgins Schroeder Hansen

Hamhuis

Garrison

Bieksa

Edler

Tanev

Then I would trade Booth, Higgins and a pick for a legitimate second liner.

This increases parity. Stronger teams will be more willing to flip two good players for one that's a cut above, or a player more suited to their need/weakness. Also increases sellers, in teams fearing assets lost for nothing, will probably barge willingly into uneven deals, just to get some value in return.

Consequently deadline-day may be busier than usual. As well, relative asset-value of draft picks should rise accordingly.

Vegas would work, there's tons of people from all income brackets who visit and are looking for things to do. Plus there are tons of people who have moved there in recent years, many of them from established hockey markets.

Well over half a million people + one of the largest year-round tourism destinations = financially works. + I'm sure all the hotels/casinos/businesses will buy boxes and prime seats to give to their clients as perks.

I don't think there's a point in protecting Luongo. He likely wouldn't be drafted because of his contract. Even if he was, the Canucks get out of a horrible contract and have good young goalies going forward.

Seattle and Las Vegas appear to be done deals.

Apparently the league wanted a team in Portland (instead of Las Vegas), but the owner of the arena there (and the NBA team) doesn't want an NHL team there. So it goes to Las Vegas instead.

As for Saskatoon - no way in hell. It's got a population of 250,000 people or something. Winnipeg has a population of like, what, 900,000? Saskatoon will never happen. I wish it could, but it's just not big enough city.

As for Quebec - if it wants a team, it needs to get it from the eastern conference. The NHL has already made it clear that there are NO EXPANSIONS AVAILABLE TO EAST COAST CITIES. They have 2 expansions, both will go to pacific/central cities. Florida panthers or Carolina hurricanes might be an option. That being said, unlike others here I'm not convinced Quebec could handle a team. Sorry, but true. Winnipeg is bigger than Quebec... but on top of that, there is no competition in Winnipeg. Quebec, on the other hand, has a ton of Montreal Canadiens fans and even if Quebec gets a team a lot of people there will remain Montreal Canadiens fans. Also, in Quebec, junior hockey seems insanely popular. Just my opinion.
