RottenCanuck22
I have an outdoor cat who has lived in the same house since he was about 1 month old but recently I moved to a new suite across town. I kept him inside the new house for about 5 days with the occasional outside time on a leash. Just today I let him out for the first time with no leash and haven't seen him in about 3 hours. I know it's a short time still but I'm worried I made a mistake letting him out that quick.. He is neutered and has a microchip but had no leash on. Did I make a mistake letting him outside so quick? Will he come back to his new house??
kanucks25
I wouldn't be worried yet. Some cats stay out for a few days before making their way back.

zombieksa
If they don't come back in a few days, check out the old digs. My sister's cat traveled across town and was sleeping under the deck at the old house.
Rick Grimes
I wouldn't worry about it too much, kitties are pretty smart, and if its used to being outside & whatnot he should be fine. I'm sure he knows who feeds him.
Pears
He'll be fine. One of my cats often stays out all-night and every now and then for a full day.
BlurTriX
Cats like to hide, check under things like front porch or deck. I found my cat hiding there before.
RottenCanuck22
He just came back... Well close enough for me to grab him and put him inside. He was just sitting in the neighbors little tree house this whole time... I guess he just wanted to explore for a while.

DarthNinja
Keeping the cat in for only 5 days after moving was not enough. You should have kept him in for at least two weeks, if not more.
Hank Moody
Btw, next time he goes missing heres a trick I did that works. Put his litter box outside. They can smell their own litter from something like a couple kilometers away and will find their way back to it.
