canuck2288
what offers were not taken last year that were better? Clearly you don't understand, we could have let Loungo go for nothing!!! Keeping Schneider ...instead we lose both and get 3 no names and mark my words,,,,no names

higgyfan
Trading Lu was inevitable, hardly a rebuild (or did you really think he would be a Canuck for the duration of his contract). Let's see what happens tomorrow before we jump off a cliff.
UFCanuck
Markkstrom and Lack are really close friends as well, the futures bright!
canuck2288
so you're an expert???? these deals can't be judged on how these players are playing right now Ok I did not mean to express it in that manner but lets look ay some deals after the fact; Grabner out Kassian In Hodgson out Booth in Alberts In Mitchell out Erhoff out Raymond out Loungo out Schneider out treat Malhotra and Loungo with no class this is all "after the fact evaluation" enough said
KFBR392
Kind of hard to "rebuild" with a declining, 35 year old goaltender with like 8 years left on his contract. This opens up opportunities in the future for the franchise. Sucks to see Luongo go, I liked the guy, but his contract was a mistake - even he knew that. He's not getting any better, nor is his contract. This trade is meh for me. Luongo wasn't a difference maker here recently, and he didn't put us over the top or come up huge when we needed him to. He obviously wasn't alone in that, since nobody else on this team has stepped up either. We need new blood and I have a feeling this is just the beginning. the grinder
WHAT A HORRIBLE TRADE , have you seen markstrum stats we better get a nhl vet back up talk about tanking it gillis your beard better grow quick you will need the disguise to walk around town we just became the Calgary canucks
yes we can nucks
Appears the trade was in the workings during the Olympics. He did not play a regular season game after he got back. One might wonder if the trade was the reason he did not play more than one olympic game. He may have been told, you get hurt in the olympics and the deal will fall through. His wife may have had a word in the decision as well. We all know she wanted him out of Vancouver. Nah... Florida GM Tallon was quoted as saying they were interested last summer and talks 'restarted on Monday'. That's after the classic. So Tortorella is still a tool. Ben Kenobi
Rebuild is on. Hopefully Gillis can get rid of some of his other white elephant contracts.
yes we can nucks
Markkstrom and Lack are really close friends as well, the futures bright! Lu and Schneider were good friends too. Both are gone! But yeah... their future's bright!
Saskfan
Gillis has ruined this team. We have gone from being a competitive contender team that with some tweaking had a legitimate shot at the cup to the laughing stock of the league. The whole manner in which the goaltending issue was handled clearly demonstrat es his incompetence. Watch for empty seats to become the norm. BRUTAL!!! guesswhere
Miller didn't have a gigantic contract that is super risky and punished under the new CBA. Thats why. I'm honestly surprised we even got that much for him. This has been talked about lots, but I'm still unclear on who takes most of the risk now going forward. I was under the impression the risk stays with the Canucks if Luongo retires early, but I'm fine with being corrected on that.

asian player
We have Horvat, Shinkaruk, Jensen, Gaunce, Corrado and a couple other prospects about to come up in the next couple years. We have a few younger players like Tanev, Stanton, Kassian. We're going to have a decent pick (5-10 I'm guessing). Unless we draft Connor Mcdavid, I think our 2nd and 3rd lines will be real solid but We just lack a real top line and we lack a true #1 defenceman. puckluv
so is this happening now because aquaman could not afford to let Lu go last year? if yes, then we need a richer owner :-)
longsuffering
"In the end, the Canucks have precious little to show for what was once one of the game's top goaltending tandems. A year ago, they had Cory Schneider and Luongo, now both are gone and the Canucks have Matthias and a couple of prospects (Markstrom and ninth overall pick Bo Horvat) in return. If the Canucks take a hit on the salary cap because of recapture five or six years down the road, well, that's just a bitter aftertaste to a situation that hasn't been very pleasant for the past couple seasons anyway." Ugli Fruit
The kind where you don't actually have any idea who we are "building" around.. Let's confirm this is even a proper rebuild before you bring up technicalities. The fact of the matter is that trading the players this team has got will not fetch much. A proper rebuild is to acquire top picks and/or quality young players, and this trade did neither of that. All it did was make the team worse defensively and more redundant in the bottom 6. Why trade players when they are all underperforming and/or injured for any reason? It was illogical to participate in the first place; none of the current players hold trade value close to what they actually are. Unless you want mediocrity in the future, in which case yes, this trade was great.
Ben Kenobi
Lu never won a Vezina so I disagree with the Vezina calibre statement. It's disrespectful to those who have won it. So you believe that Luo isn't as good a netminder as Kipper, Miller, Thomas, and Lundqvist? I disagree. The only tier of goalie that's better than Luongo is the Brodeur, Hasek, Roy group. That won 13 of them.
