youngdad
You doing some kind of 'scheduling'? smart move would be to keep Torts until at least Christmas in case Linden and new GM need a scapegoat .. then Interim HC followed by a big 'hurrah' same time next year when we hire our 'New Perfect Head Coach", resulting in increased Season Ticket sales and 'hype' about our top 5 draft pick .. Bet on it. .. Actually kind of brilliant.
Me_
I think Torts should stay but they should move him into DJ Dave's place, maybe he has a better choice of music because DJ Dave sucks! Or move him into PR department. Don't keep him as coach though. Tortorella as GM? lol Keep coach Torts.
oldnews
Old news = tony gallagher ? u hate Torts like the crypt keeper. don't know why, but I got a real kick out of that. I'm busting TG's jewels all the time on these boards. Do we actually agree on something? I think I'd probably prefer to keep Tortorella if it meant getting rid of the dweebs at the Province. I honestly feel a little bad for Tortorella. Crap really conspired to make him pay for every mistake he made. I guess he doesn't have much grace left in the tank. I'm still not convinced he should be back though - don't like his perspective on the season and don't see much prospect for necessary changes in approach. But as critical as I've been of Torts, I don't actually dislike him. I was somewhat undecided until I heard how obstinate he was in that season ending presser. I was also disappointed how diplomatic he was with the media this year - did not want the kinder, gentler Tortorella where the press was concerned - would have loved to see him let er rip like the old days. oldnews
** I think Torts has until Xmas .. he is a convenient scapegoat if need be .. worse case scenario, they bring an interim Head Coach in during the year, and use that to distract the masses until they hire a brand spanking new Head Coach in 2015, right before we win the lottery and draft McDavid .. optimism runs amok ** I fell out of my hammock at this point so I have no idea how the dream ended .. Agree with the poster above. That is quite brilliant. And Torts is a decent first half of the regular season coach, haha. Or bring in the real reinforcements for the second half and the playoffs... The Bookie
Can you imagine if they have a similar December this year, then they fire Tortorella anyways on xmas day?
oldnews
Can you imagine if they have a similar December this year, then they fire Tortorella anyways on xmas day? At least he'd have a chance of landing another coaching job. At this point, it's gonna be a tough sell.
SuperReverb2
Might as well face it. Torts isn't going anywhere this summer. Pretty sure Aquilini isn't going to payout Gills (most likely already happened) buyout what ever (name X) player in the summer, AND payout Torts as well? Yes Aquilini does have a lot of money, but he didn't get it by being frivolous. Besides have you read the papers lately? Appears the Aquilinis have been on a bit of a property - business buying spree. Might not feel too comfortable paying out a coach that just might pay dividends for the team given the right mix of players. Also. GM's and coaches see to be dropping like flies this offseason with possibly more to come. If Benning is our man, and the Bruins do go deep into the playoffs, we might not see Benning until just before the draft. (mid June) Might not be very many decent coaching candidates even left by then. My money is on Torts starting the 2014-2015 season as the Canucks head coach albeit on a VERY, VERY short lease. Assistants, etc., may be different from last year depending on a number of factors.

Salmonberries
I've become somewhat sympathetic since he admitted he was an idiot in his post season press conference. Not enough to want him back as coach though; he can't do that.

RU SERIOUS
Mind-blowing some people actually think Tortelini is worth keeping. The guy is more emotional than a woman and has no composure, tact or an ounce of professionalism. That incident w/Calgary between periods reminded me of certain humans that explode every 28 days - if you get what I mean! That was unbelievably embarrassing to watch and not what professional athletes aspire to see in their leader. That was the writing on the wall for him after that. No one wants a hot head at the helm! SuperReverb2
whoops.Horrible mistake by Linden. Wrong move by the Canucks organization in general. Justifies the actions (or in this case) the NON actions of our core group and bolsters the fact that they were right and all the coaches (and a good number of the fans) were wrong. It's obvious that Linden (and all of us) are stuck with this lazy ass core for the foreseeable future thanks to all of the ridiculous NTC's handed out by MG. Obvious the players aren't going to waive either. Guess we'll never really know the whole story about what Torts was promised by MG when he was hired. Too bad. Sad for Torts being thrown under the bus like he is. Looks like the same old, same old, for next season coupled with the fact that it looks like Linden will be hiring a new coach that is great in the regular season (McLennan) but can't for the life of him get his team past the first or second round of the playoffs. Oh. Sorry. He did get to the conference finals one year. Our Canucks beat him. Go Figure. No wonder I don't watch too much Canucks hockey anymore. So done with this core. More pond hockey and more "cycle the puck" in 2014-1015. Oh joy I can hardly wait.
