Tortorella: Canucks Are Getting Old

add to what....give kesler his 100th winger

Kesler hasn't really had a true "top 6" winger since Sundin, Demitra and to a lesser degree Samuelsson.

Booth was fitting until that dirty knee on knee hit he took (and all the ensuing injuries/inconsistent play) but obviously isn't the answer. Kassian's coming along and may be a good fit if he can keep his performance and consistency from the last month or so going in to next year. That still leaves the left wing open... prospect? UFA? Trade?

If Tortorella had done a bang up job this year, he might be in a position to be deflecting, to be getting all 'honest' about other people - the GM, the depth, the core - but his season was a nightmare of a crash and burn for him, where he spent months at the end of it looking vacant, lifeless. defeated, and without any answers himself, whatsoever. Those kinds of shots over almost every bow in the organization - I almost take that as an invitation to relieve him of his duties.

Wait... wans't that how AV looked like by the end too?

Oh yes it was.

Gillis couldn't make a hockey trade to save his own a$$ and burned two great coaches, two elite goalies and countless other players in the process.

Ah the catch22...

If Kassian plays with anyone, including Richardson, his consistency will develop perfectly. If he plays with Kesler, like any other player playing with Kesler, his numbers will go down.

Thats because Kesler is a great 5 on 5 winger and a great penalty killing center.

Relieved to hear Linden say that he believes in 4 lines. Very obvious that Torts does not. Loved the

irony of Weise scoring the winner for the Habs last night. A certainty that he would not have seen the

ice after 3 periods.

Torts believes in four lines. He also believes in depth. If Tortorella has depth, you'll see four lines.

The absolute stupidity of some peoples children....

Torts was the saviour and the end all be all until mid January. Do we have to bump some threads to prove that some of you were on his jock for about 3 or 4 full months out of the season?

Torts would have been fine had he had some organizational depth and a few less severe injuries and maybe not had some career poor years for key players.

yup Torts told it like it is. It was the first time I've ever heard a Canucks staff say the things all the "knowledgable" fans have been talking about in these forums for 2 years.

When you watch the playoffs you can clearly see why Gillis was fired. All the playoff teams have improved since the Canucks run in 2011. All these teams have injected youth who have contributed to making their teams better. Gillis arrogance in thinking his team was good enough only resulted in locking up old and stale players to NTC'S.

The Vcr youth just isn't ready yet, Gillis did not try to force feed the big league to them....IMO that took guts, and his ultimate pink slip. If I read things right Vcr youth is likely ready to play some next year and some the following year. I just hope we don't wipe their careers out before it's started. Chicago is good because it s*cked for a long time & were awarded Kane and Towes 1st & 3rd ovelall, ditto Avs ( last 5 drafts the've had a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd over all top pick...I didn't here you talking up the Avs 2 years ago ) Would Pitts be great if they hadn't won the lottery and picked up Crosby ?....remembering of course they were that bad they got Malkin the year before 2nd over all and followed the Crosby pick with Jordon Stall 2nd over all.

Teams are made with draft picks and because of our success on the ice we've drafted in the 25 pick range. This from TSN

Most of these numbers tell us what we already intuitively know. The higher picks, for the most part, yield better players and there is an increasing level of uncertainty after the first five-to-ten players are selected.

Actions speak louder than words. Torts recently said that he is a 4 line guy but his history in the NHL does not bear that out. That recent statement sounds more like he was appealing to Linden for his job next season.

These are the youngest teams in the NHL (26 years avg). There's only one playoff team in this group who barely squeaked in.
Columbus
Winnipeg
Buffalo
Ottawa
Toronto
Nashville
Washington
Edmonton
Calgary
Canucks are 27.56 avg. The Sedins and Burrows are the oldest at 33 and the rest of the core group are in mid-late 20's. This isn't a very old team.

Exactly! This is a total classless cop-out by a coach who knows he's lost his job! AV would never have passed the buck like this. Age has nothing to do with it, you guys. It has everything to do with coaching and luck (injuries). Look at Detroit - they an "aging" team, with a core that is older than the Canucks. Yet, again, they are in the playoff mix (and taking it to Boston!).

Tortorella is does not have a enquiring mind looking at new alternatives. He's black and white his way or the highway. Some thing like a train on a track, telescopic vision what ever you want to call it but considering the players we have his style will not coincide with the players he has. A woeful misuse of the talent available. He makes good players look like idiots ( Edler ) Henrik with his new found dump and chase game.

After this season how can they invite him back to indulge himself and make ticket buyers watch another a boring boring season.

+1

(and the expression is tunnel vision)

Torts is the one getting old.

He has had his mind made up for a long, long time.

He admitted the only reason they won the Cup was "we didn't know what we were doing".

But once they won, he wasn't going to change anything.

He refuses to learn our players, players in the west, heck he even said he doesn't know the Rangers!

Guy's a goof!

Can't wait for TL to name our new GM and then Torts is Ta Ta!

Henrik with his new found dump and chase game.

This just shows me that you have no clue what you're talking about. I have seen the Sedins carry the puck in countless times this season.

Torts declared that he wants the Sedins to carry the puck in and has never instructed them dump n' chase.

But you probably heard a Rick Ball comment from two months ago...

Wrong again.

Henrik skated past everyone all alone crossing the blue line and passed the puck into the empty corner.

Then he skated to the corner and looked for someone to pass it out to.

The only reason he would play like this is because Nut Bag told them to play this way.

Screaming F-Bombs at players to play his way - like idiots.

I can't believe that people buy into torts bullcrap. Earlier in the season when he was over-playing our top players he was asked about it. He said that these guys were top end players who could handle it. That's how he justified over-playing them all season. Now he says he knew from the start that the core was too old and stale. Hypocrite!!!
