Mainly Mattias
I was taking a workshop in burnaby last week so had to take transit for the first time in... awhile. Maybe it was just the crowd on this stretch of street, but do I ever feel sorry for transit drivers for what they have to deal with. On my bus, there were 5+ people (I seriously lost count) asking not to pay for their ride. The 1st one came onto the bus and pleaded with the driver, saying, "It's just a couple of stops. Please." He let her on with a few words of a disapproving tone. The second was a man in his mid twenties who came on with an attitude, asking for a free ride. The bus driver refused him and the man proceeded to make a spectacle of himself. He said, "Here's 2 bucks. See? I'm paying." He threw the toonie onto the dash and walked a couple of steps down the bus and the driver again refused him a ride and said that it wasn't even in the coin collector. After depositing the toonie in the collector and calling him a fat bald ahole, he walked down the length of the bus. I told him he was being disrepectful and he gave me the finger. The driver stood up and did not drive the bus. The man then pleaded and apologized and said he wouldn't be causing a fuss any longer and still the bus driver refused to move the bus. Eventually the driver gave him a ticket and told him to take another bus and he left still calling out profanities. Geez. He didn't even have the excuse of youth for his bad behaviour. vancouvercanucks2010
What kind of cheap bastards are you to not pay for bus service? if you are that poor, walk.
Denguin
Transit drivers put up with a lot of BS. I know a couple bus drivers, and they say it's something they get used to. They take the passive approach since jeopardizing their safety is not worth collecting 2.75 for TransLink. So the answer is yes, there are a lot of idiots that ride transit. There aren't many things that tick me off, but seeing people act the way they do on transit is one of them. Sucks since I rely on it daily. AriGold
Is there any reason transit police are never on buses? They make money policing the skytrain seeing as it's an honour system. They make no money policing the bus and it's up to the poor bus drivers to take the abuse. And they want to tax us even more so they can get bigger bonuses.. Get real.... I hope people weren't influenced by the big budget of the "Yes" campaign.
vancouvercanucks2010
The one who say yes to the tax hike should post their address online, so people can send them bills to pay for the difference, as we never agrees to the tax hike.
RRypien37
Is there any reason transit police are never on buses? Too busy writing tickets at the stations...collecting money, as per the norm. The same thing can be said for actual "law enforcement".

This topic made me think that in 8 years of taking transit, I've never seen transit police on a bus. I've seen bus drivers abused and people regularly ride for free. I think zero enforcement and no visible authority definitely have an effect.
Dral
I've seen transit police on the 135 (they were going back and forth crossing boundary) and 145... problem is, it's a lot more difficult to catch people and after checking a bus, it's a lot of standing around doing nothing
deadendpath
I pay for the bus, but I rarely pay for the skytrain.
-Vintage Canuck-
Although I have never seen transit police on the bus during the actual ride, but I did encounter a random check-up at Metrotown a month ago where the transit cop was checking everyone's passes/tickets inside the bus while we were boarding the bus. The aforementioned incident happened westbound on the 135. Too bad no transit police were nearby then.
Raph
I've seen the transit police board the #99 BLine at like Clark and Fraser St on multiple occasions. They do catch quite a lot of people.
WilliesStache14
I have only ever seen transit police on the bus once in my life, they came onto the 99, checked 2 people, then got off lol.
Gyllenhaal
I usually only take transit to get to work. So if I don't have change for the bus I'll just bring cash and tell them I'll pay at the skytrain station.
Bob.Loblaw
Is there any reason transit police are never on buses? Well, to be honest, the driver was sort of able to take care of this situation without needing the help of police. And if you don't need police, you don't use them. Twilight Sparkle
thats not so bad, compared to the drivers who have to drive the N19-- that has to suck. i've chatted with a few drivers who take the N19 route. they have those nights were people are well behaved, but so many horror stories. i wouldn't want to deal with the drunks, addicts and the skids, then having to deal with piss, vomit and feces at the end of the route. dealing with idiots who don't wanna pay fares are the least of their problems, but you do get those drivers who don't take no for an answer. i remember one time the driver said he wouldn't start the bus unless the guy got off, and two people physically threw him out the front door, cause he was shouting and screaming and people had enough I've seen the transit police board the #99 BLine at like Clark and Fraser St on multiple occasions. They do catch quite a lot of people. lolz those people who sneak on the back doors XD
-AJ-
I used to take the bus to school via my U-Pass, but ever since I got a car, I ditched public transit. A lot easier to work with the traffic in Abbotsford than in Greater Van.
