[Report] Alex Chiasson and Sens going to arbitration

Recommended Posts

Looks like they are far apart on a deal. $1 million was the offer. I guess thats the minimum to qualify.

As per TSN.

Ottawa Senators forward Alex Chiasson will not reach a deal with the club before Saturday's arbitration ruling, according to his agent.

TSN Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli reports that the restricted free agent asked for $2.475 million in the hearing on Thursday while the Sens countered with a $1 million offer.

The 24-year-old Canadian will be the third player in the NHL since 2011 to reach a deal via arbitration. Kyle Cumiskey (2012) and Shea Weber (2011) were the previous two.

Chiasson scored 11 goals and added 15 assists over 76 games in 2014-15, his first with the Senators.

Higgins for Chiasson?

2.475 isn't unreasonable, 1 million however is. His point totals havent been astronomical, but certainly very very good for a 24 year old power forward standing at 6'4" and 205 lbs.

Considering Chiasson was one of the key pieces going back to Ottawa in the Spezza deal, you can be DAMN sure they're going to retain him and certainly won't be trading him for Higgins.

I imagine the arbitrator will split the difference between the two asks, and give him a 1 year deal @ 1.8

Maybe $2 mill?

But yes; dead on the nail!

a decent trade would of been Kassian for Chiasson. Two project players fair value but instead Benning gets Prust.

A year late & a dollar short. Probably spent on some handshake deal outside the Roxy?

Although I can appreciate the sentiment.

Ottawa Senators forward Alex Chiasson was awarded a one-year, $1.2 million contract by an arbitrator Sunday.

TSN Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli reported that the restricted free agent had asked for $2.475 million in his hearing on Thursday while the Sens countered with a $1 million offer.

The 24-year-old Canadian becomes the third player in the NHL since 2011 to reach a deal via arbitration. Kyle Cumiskey (2012) and Shea Weber (2011) were the previous two.

"In our opinion, both sides made fair, detailed arguments and we are satisfied with the ruling of the arbitrator," Senators general manager Bryan Murray said. "We are happy to have Alex under contract and anticipate that he will be a productive player for us this season. Alex will be given the chance to have an important role in the team's success."

Chiasson scored 11 goals and added 15 assists over 76 games in 2014-15, his first with the Senators. He was acquired via trade from the Dallas Stars on July 1, 2014 as part of the Jason Spezza deal.

I knew he wasn't going to get anything close to 2.5 mil.

He struggled at times to maintain consistent play and often found himself on the fourth line. Needs to find more consistency as he often when on pointless droughts for long stretches. He was slotted in the top six early last season but slowly lost trust from the coaching staff which diminished his role.

Chiasson was one of the key players going back for Jason Spezza. Only 1 of those players competes, I'll let you try to figure out which player that is.

he would get a 1 year 3 mil contract and then be UFA. Smart asset management

Or atrocious team and cap management, as most would see it.
