With McCann and Virtanen making the team, there's an excess of forwards. At the moment it's not a problem since there are injuries but when everyone is back, management will have to make a move or two.

Daniel, Henrik, Vrbata, Burrows, Sutter...Dorsett, Prust, Higgins, Hansen, Baertschi...Horvat, Virtanen, McCann, Gaunce, Cracknell = 15 forwards. Gaunce will likely be sent down when Prust comes back leaving us with 14 forwards but another move will still have to be made. Management has said they'll make room for the youngsters if they deserve a spot and with Jake and Jared being locks now, something will have to give way.

Circumstances have changed to complicate things a bit as well. I don't think anyone (besides Apollo lol) thought the transition would be this smooth and successful. Team is doing well, ahead of many teams who were predicated to do better than us, leaving the Pacific wide open for the taking. There's a good chance the Canucks can be the Flames of last year, win a round or two with the fusion of youth + veteran leadership, raising some eyebrows and fly under the radar. No pressure, no expectations, could be a nice little transition year on top of the year we had last season to keep progressing slowly.

...so how does the circumstance change? Well, do you still move a pending UFA in Vrbata at the trade deadline to get younger or no? Ship him out and you lose a valuable piece of the team essentially dropping your chances of competing like the team currently is. Like wise, same question is applied to Hamhuis and Prust who are also pending UFAs.

Yes, the transition is going better than mnay had predicted.  6 wins and 9 losses in the first 15 games is very decent. And yes McCann is on a very good scoring pace, even outcoring our poster boy for the transition- Bo. That being said, the thread seems to imply that once the currently injured players return, that will be it with injuries. Maybe, but maybe not. And yes Vrbata is a proven sniper, but honestly, I mean what team would give more than a bag of pucks for him right now?? A top prospect? A first round pick? Maybe. unlikely, but maybe.

Surprise here - everyone will never be healthy at the same time.  7 games on the road in 14 days plus travel.  Players will pick up nicks, bumps, bruises and whatever that will put someone(s) out of the lineup for various periods of time.  The problem is to have enough good players in the lineup.

Why are so many posters always wanting to trade someone.  The only answer I can come up with is that the grass always looks greener on the side or players on the other team look better than what we have.  That is not necessarily so and the player you trade away, given the chance, seems to perform better.

For example, we traded Dale Weise for Raphael Diaz, who played 6 games for the Canucks, then we traded him to the Rangers for a 5th round draft pick - Ryan Pilon - then he was signed by the Flames as a free agent and played out the 2014 - 2015 Season with the Flames.  He was signed as a free agent by the Rangers in 2015 and is currently playing with the Rangers AHL farm team.  Meanwhile Weise has a permanent spot with the Canadians and so far this season has 8 goals, 3 assists and is a + 8.  Now in all fairness Torts had Weise when he coached the Rangers and did not like him.  We got him from the Rangers off waivers.  One of the good moves by Mike Gillis.  So we really got almost nothing for Weise and he looks pretty good in Montreal.  Not many 5th round draft picks ever play in the NHL.

because there are a few vets taking up roster spots who are set to become UFA at the end of the season.  They should be given serious trade consideration, regardless of where the team is at the deadline.  If it weren't for a hefty cap hit still left, I'd be moving Vrbata sooner than later.

100% trade Vrbata, put Burrows with Sedins, and adjust lines accordingly:

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Baertchi McCann Virtanen

Higgins Horvat Hansen

Prust Sutter Dorsett

(Lines aren't really in order.. honestly just care about Vrbata being gone to make sure Baertschi is never scratched again)

An all rookie 2nd line? Sutter would be the most expensive 4th liner in the league maybe history.

Vrbata is as good as done.  Let's get a first round pick!

Okay Vrbata is as good as done.  That is your opinion.  So if you were on the other side of any deal what would you give??

Not a 1st round pick that is for sure.  Probably a player you didn't want and maybe a 4th or 5th round pick.

That is reality.

Vbrata's suddenly very expendable. He wasn't when he was scoring 30 goals but he's been snakebitten so far, and if he can't ramp up the production by the deadline I think we can part with him and replace his offence easily from within.

Vbrata + 2nd round pick for a top-4 right handed defenceman.

This team has plenty of options for linemates with the Sedins. Sutter has shown he can play with them, Burrows and Hansen obviously can but if McCann can keep up his offence he might be good enough for 2nd line center:

Sedin - Sedin - Sutter

Baertschi - McCann - Burrows

Higgins - Horvat - Hansen

Dorsett - Prust - Virtanen

Yeah, I mean it's not like he was considered one of the top 8 Canadian defensemen in 2014.

You know.. when he was selected for the Canadian Olympic hockey team.

a reputation booking for sure.  Do you really see him as a top 8 Canadian D?  Today?  Even in 2014?  That beast that managed zero points in 7 games?  Fact is P.K deserved to play over Hammer all day.  Oh and he was awfully average to just plain awful for that tourney too
