#AHL swap between Carolina and Vancouver. T.J. Hensick goes to Utica, Dane Fox goes to Charlotte.

Fox gets to play in the AHL, we use Hensick in Utica but we still own Fox's rights....for now

Hensick is depth for Utica going forward and into the playoffs.

We weren't sure that his goal scoring ability in the ECHL was going to translate to the next level.

Just now, Kevin Biestra said:

At least the guy will finally get a chance in the AHL.  What was the point in letting him rot in the ECHL when he was playing well there.

I agree, lets see what he can do, too bad it wasnt with Utica, but maybe they are rewarding him with this move, and will watch to see how he does.

If he does well maybe we will see him get a chance with Utica next year

Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired forward Dane Fox from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for future considerations. Fox will immediately join Carolina’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

Fox, 22, is in his second professional season, spending the majority of the year with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. The Chatham, Ont., native leads all Kalamazoo skaters in goals (26), points (50) and penalty minutes (87), appearing in 53 games this season. Fox (6’0”, 185 lbs.) ranked second among Wings players in goals (30) and penalty minutes (110) during his rookie season with Kalamazoo in 2014-15.

Fox signed with Vancouver as an undrafted free agent on Dec. 28, 2013, during his final season of junior hockey with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He led the OHL in goals that season, finding the net 64 times and totaling 107 points in 67 games played.

Is Hunwick that much of an improvement for this year in Utica that we move on from Fox? Were we moving on from Fox anyway so they decided to get something for him? Too many details we don't know at this point: what Green and Co. thought of him in Utica and if that blocked his AHL path, if Benning and Co. were just moving on, or if they feel they can compete again for the Calder with more vets in Utica.

And Utica's release:

Quote

Utica Comets Director of Hockey Operations Pat Conacher announced today that the Utica Comets have acquired forward T.J. Hensick on loan from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Blair Jones being loaned to the Charlotte Checkers.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have traded forward Dane Fox to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for future consideration.

A four-time American Hockey League All-Star, Hensick, has appeared in 46 games for the AHL Charlotte Checkers this season, where he ranks tied for sixth on the team in scoring with 25 points (7-18-25). The 30-year old center was named to the 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012 AHL All-Star teams. Hensick has amassed 456 points (137-319-456) in 484 AHL games including a 60 point campaign (19-41-60) for the Hamilton Bulldogs last year. In 112 NHL regular season games, split between the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues, Hensick has registered 38 points (12-26-38) and 18 penalty minutes.

A native of Howell, Michigan, Hensick was originally selected by Colorado in the third round, 88th overall, at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
