Shalagin was signed before ever signing an NHL contract, meaning you will be unable to terminate his contract.

Thought that rule was only for a player actually under contract overseas. Shalagin was a free agent (in our league, unsigned draftee IRL) when I signed him, and signed an AHL deal later that offseason.

At the time, Shalagin was not in North America yet so he falls under the non-terminatable contracts from the CBA.

If the player in question is a player whom the team signed to a contract while the player was not in North America, the player’s contract cannot be terminated.
