The season went about as I would've expected, but with a disappointing finish. It'll be tough to knock off any of the top teams in the East including our 1st round opponent, the Penguins. But who knows how things will play out.

FLORIDA PANTHERS 2016-2017 TEAM AWARDS

Most Valuable Player

Spoiler

ANTTI RAANTA

> being acquired for a 1st round pick early on in the season, the heat was on Raanta from the get go. Questions were immediately raised for why the high price. Toxic veteran and ex team captain Roberto Luongo still wouldn't let go of the starting net even though management/coaching staff announced Raanta as starter. Bobby Lu was later shipped in a deal that got back Jonathan Quick which only lit the fire underneath of Raanta. Supporting a sub .900 sv% and 3+ GAA, he did a complete full 180. Bringing his numbers to a point which he was outperforming Quick, management wasted no time in getting rid of the fraud and officially solidifying Raanta as the teams' #1 netminder.

From the TDL on out, he would only prove to the organization why choosing him was a decision they wouldn't soon regret by ending the season with a 15-5-1 record, 2nd best GAA across the league, and 4th best sv%.

Unsung Hero

Spoiler

BRIAN BOYLE

> having played not even a single game for the TBLightning following his Leukemia treatment, it looked as if the Bolts pulled the plug on the warrior who seemingly was warming the press box night in, night out. Panthers GM EP40. having fought similarly through a cancer battle of his own saw the opportunity to give Boyle a 2nd chance. And so he was acquired for a future late round pick marking a low risk, mid-high reward move. Boy did it pay off.

In the 58 games played this season (all under the Panthers), not only did he post 10g/20pts on the 4th line but he was promptly announced team captain filling the void of previous captain Luongo. It was clear that his story gave the rest of the team a boost which the players rallied around for the rest of the campaign. Boyle's perseverance + sheer will to not let his hockey career pass in front of his very eyes was a true underdog story in which not a single soul was rooting against. He and the Panthers GM now hold a very special bond which will remain intact forever!

Leading Scorer

Spoiler

GUSTAV NYQUIST

> traded for at the start of the year the Goose went on to post team highs in both goals (37) and points (82), good enough to finish runner up for the Art Ross. A phenomenal campaign.

Best Defenseman

Spoiler

OLIVER EKMAN-LARSSON

> acquired in the stunning blockbuster with Ekblad going to Arizona, OEL showcased why he was worth it. Finished just 1 point shy of the 50pt mark and led the Panthers blue line with 7 goals.

Most Exciting Player

Spoiler

MARTIN HANZAL

> not only did he explode for a whopping 67pt season, he did so while roughing things up tacking on 100 minutes of penalties. He was a force in every aspect of the game: PP, PK, and after the whistle.

Fan Favourite

Spoiler

P.K. SUBBAN

> 52 points to begin his Panthers career, PK was equally as colourful on&off the ice. He caught the attention of fans during pre game, on social media, after matches, etc. A big part as to why tickets were selling at a franchise record rate, fans adored Subban at all times.

Edmonton Oilers Team Awards

2016-17 MVP - Connor McDavid

2016-17 Leading Scorer - Connor McDavid

2016-17  Best Defenseman - Oscar Klefbom

2016-17 Best Goaltender - Ben Bishop

2016-17 Top Rookie - Jesse Puljujarvi

2016-17 Unsung Hero - Leon Draisaitl

It was an amazing season for the Edmonton Oilers with Connor McDavid leading the charge. In the first half of the regular season, Oilers were just mediocre and almost fell out of a playoff spot heading into January. With a few minor lineup changes Oilers started winning again, but not to good teams and they also had trouble scoring goals. Oilers knew they had to make a change upfront and on defense to have any success down the road. The Oilers on Trade Deadline day, went out and added Mike Cammalleri, Kyle Okposo and Johnny Boychuk. Oilers sadly had to give up some pieces the other way in Jordan “Mr. Clutch” Eberle, Andrej Sekera, and Benoit Pouliot.

After the Trade Deadline, Oilers went on a tear winning 9 out of their last 13 games. Mike Cammalleri and Kyle Okposo were ppg since being acquired at the deadline. Also Johnny Boychuk provided much needed defensive help in the backend. The Oilers never looked back and kept their foot on the pedal and clinched playoff spot and had their first 50 win season.

Edmonton Oilers are now playing the Anaheim Ducks in the 1st round of playoffs and this should be a hard fought series. Both teams have great offensive fire power in which could be high scoring. This is will be a dandy!

Out Of Our Blue. We Rise.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have wrapped up their regular season and look towards the playoffs after what has been an incredibly surprising season from a good majority of their youth. The Blue Jackets ended up qualifying for the 2016-17 playoffs in a wild card spot and will face the Washington Capitals in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Blue Jackets have swept the season series with the division-leading Capitals but the playoffs are an entirely new season and there is no doubt that the Capitals are a team to feared.

With that being said, looking back at the regular season, the Blue Jackets, who are the youngest team in the NHL this season, have impressively qualified for the playoffs and were led by some very surprising players on their roster. The future no doubt looks incredibly bright for the team, with  the young players leading the way, and lots of progression still to occur, placing 12th in the NHL standings while the roster is still this young, the sky is truly the limit.

Some notable tidbits from this regular season include the team having the leagues best PP% tied with the Montreal Canadiens at 25.2%. The team also had a total of 192 points from their entire defense this year, a pretty sizable contribution from the blueline and a big contributing factor to why the powerplay was so lethal this season. Sergei Bobrovsky had somewhere close to a sub .900 sv% halfway through the regular season and has finished off the year with a .913 sv%, very likely being one of the best goalies in the second-half of the regular season after a fairly poor start especially by his standards.

Overall the team performed incredibly well this year from what the expectations were. A lot of players surprised on our roster, including sexy Alexander Wennberg (60 points), rookies Zach Werenski (48 points) and Oliver Bjorkstrand (46 points).

While we look forward to the playoffs, the expectations going into next season will undoubtedly be higher as a good portion of our youth will have hopefully gained valuable experience and progressed once the season is over and done with. Of course, our ultimate goal is to win the cup, but the season as it stands is already quite a success. Hopefully we can bring a little more to the city of Columbus before the NHL season comes to an end.

Team MVP: Cam Atkinson - (35G, 37A). Cam led the team in scoring this season, and by a fairly decent amount (12 points), all while being a pretty solid defensive winger. Cam easily was the teams best player this year and looks to be a staple on this team for years to come. Most certainly an unexpected season.

Most Surprising Player: Alexander Wennberg - (27G, 33A). Alex was most certainly not expected to put up 1C points this year. While we expected Alex to be a solid contributor to our roster, the way he performed this year was without a doubt quite shocking. While he'll need to work on his FO% as it was a disappointing 41%, he most certainly made up for it with his offensive contributions this season.

Best Defenseman: Seth Jones - (6G, 44A). Seth was a monster this year, all at the young age of 21 years old, putting up 50 points, leading our team in TOI, shots blocked, and a +/- of 19, he is proving to be a true franchise defenseman and will be one for years to come.

Best Newcomer: Zach Werenski - (4G, 44A). Zach, like Seth has proven to be a cornerstone defenseman for this franchise, all in his first NHL season racking up a ridiculous 48 points as a 19 year old defenseman, something that is almost unheard of in today's NHL. The blueline looks set for years to come.

2016-17 Top Cunt - Loui Eriksson

2016-17 Leading Scorer - Loui Eriksson

2016-17  Best Defensive Cunt - Francois Beauchemin

2016-17 Best Goaltender - Jacob Markstrom

2016-17 Top Rookie Cunt - Nikita Tryamkin

2016-17 Unsung Cunt - Matt Puempel

The Canucks were one of the youngest squads in the NHL this year with 7 players 23 and younger on the roster. Considering the expectations going in the season were quite low, the Canucks fans must be happy with the effort the team played each night. The Canucks will look to bounce back next year with Tryamkin, Horvat, and Puempel getting significant expereince this season. In the fold, the Canucks have a plethora of scoring wingers ready to make the jump in Virtanen, Sprong, and Boeser and on the backend with Juulsen and Juolevi.

Going into the draft, the Canucks will look to draft a playmaking center that can fit with the new prospects. Rumours out of Vancouver are that the Sedins, Beauchemin, and every vet on expiring deals are on the block as they expect another year of retooling before being competitive.
