I'm really surprised it took him this long to decide to go back home?  I guess the dream of getting back to the NHL is a powerful one.

Wish him the best of luck - I'm sure he has some good hockey left in the tank.

Home is Portland from his WHL days - bought a house there.  Few years ago said in an interview that he doesn't even return to Switzerland every summer.

He literally played ONE game with Vegas. Played a year with their farm team and did pretty much nothing. No NHL team had interest in him so he went back home.

Of course his concussions derailed his career. He was never the same player since.

What you say doesnt even make sense. If concussion 1) stopped him from playing or 2) affected his performance, he would have retired already. What happened was once Baertschi came back from his injury, Benning immediately shut him down. Either thinking Baertschi is too soft or not offensive enough to take a top 6 spot. Baertschi demands a trade. After that, Baertschi goes on to play 2 seasons in the AHL where concussions happen a lot too.

You want to see where a real concussion derailed a career? Ferland.

No what happened was Baertschi wasn’t good enough to crack our top 6. Yes he was too soft and one dimensional. If he was an NHL player why did he only play one game with Vegas?  Why did he only score 28 points in 44 games in the AHL last year?

His concussions obviously affected his play the last 3 years. Not sure why you keep denying this when it’s pretty obvious based on his stats. If he was a legit top 6 player in the NHL he would have been putting up a point a game numbers in the AHL and another team would have signed him. That didn’t happen so he’s going back home to finish his career.

According to this he still calls his childhood town in Switzerland his hometown - says he is still very fond of Bern.

I have sustained my fair share of concussions-TBIs--and they are no joke.  Each one seems to be worse that the one before.  The symptoms can be horrible, even months later with post-concussion syndrome. Sven had his fair share of concussions and the fact that he could try to comeback into NHL form speaks to his determination and resiliency.
