clear cap and sign JT compher or E rod, but I would be ok with Kampfer, Bjugstad, Nosek, Suter ( I don't love him but he's good defensively), Colton in a trade ism great but what is the price? I would do Hogz and one of our 3rd/4ths, but we still need to sign him and clear cap, Boeser 1.5 retained for a 2nd, do it - Anaheim? Chicago, Carolina?

Why do you want to get rid of Hogs? The kid's a sparkplug. I'd rather give him a chance before tossing him aside.

Trying to improve with free agents has not worked. We do have potential in our pipeline. However our penchant is trading them before they reach the projected potential.

Drafting for future need should be our teams priority. Yes R Defence is a dire need. But as previous GM's gave our ability to acquire non essential , unrealistic term and aged veterans, for our picks. We remain in the lower status.

Nosek, Bluegger, even super are more 3c/4c tweeners, would be nice to get a 2c/3c tweener who can jump up to 2c if needed, like compher, or Rodrigues, Colton

I mean obviously it would be nicer to get that upgrade but cap space is our enemy. We’re already over and have 3 spots to fill. Getting a Compher, Rodrigues or Colton we’d need the forward moved to be Boeser. If it’s Beauvillier or Garland that probably isn’t enough cap going out to fit one of those names in along with the other holes in the roster.

11OA should help, but 19OA + 35OA and cap dump to Chicago might also... lol

I'm a big fan of the Detroit guys Puis Suter or Sundqvist - Suter is probably better defensively and on the PK but Sundqvist is a big strong unit (not great at times on metrics though). Kampf is an idea target - he was Toronto's 4C for the most part last year but is a great PKer and real checking center and solid at faceoffs.

I know we had a similar incident with Dickinson - a former 4C we thought we could promote and he sucked obviously, but if we keep our offensive expectations low for Kampf I think we'll be fine. Surround him by our many offensive grinding-type wingers (eg. Hoglander and Garland would be a great line) and we should be golden. We don't need offence - we've got two of the best offensive centers in Petey and Miller, but we desperately need a checking guy to take minutes off the top guys and defensive responsibilities away from them in the D zone and on the PK. The dichotomy of Petey-Miller and Kampf-Aman/Joshua should work quite well.

Best Third Line Centers For The Canucks

Thomas Drance and Harman Dayal of the Athletic: Drance and Dayal look at the best options for the Vancouver Canucks this offseason. Specifically the third-line center position.

As they both write they are looking for that ideal third-line center that can be versatile in every aspect of the game. But the Canucks cap situation is tight.

Pius Suter – The first center they look at is Pius Suter. They project a two-year deal at $2.2 million AAV. He is an actual center and a capable faceoff man. He is also a reliable penalty killer and is an effective scorer at even strength as well. Though the Canucks are loaded with lefties in Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, Suter is another lefty but is the best option right now in a weak center market this offseason.

David Kampf – Kampf is projecting three years at $2.2 million AAV. Kampf was a great signing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He is a gem in the faceoff circle and was predominantly a third-line center with the Leafs. Again another effective penalty killer as his numbers show. He is a solid target for Vancouver at the right price.

Other names that are cheap that Drance and Dayal look at are Teddy Blueger, Lars Eller, and Tomas Nosek. Eller is up there in age but is still an effective player. He is more of a bottom-six player now. If the term and price are limited as they project he could fit into the lineup for the Canucks.

Then there is Blueger. Like Eller, Blueger is a bottom-six defensive specialist. He takes a ton of defensive zone draws. He also is a great penalty killer and surrenders very few shots and scoring chances at even strength. The issue is his offensive ability is more of a fourth-liner than a third-liner.

Another name being thrown around is Tomas Nosek. Nosek is a reliable third-line player especially because he wins north of 56 percent of the draws he takes. He is a solid penalty killer, great defensively, and can play the third or fourth line.

There are other players Drance and Dayal look at but either they do not fit what the Canucks are looking for or will just be too expensive because of the salary cap.
