My 'play like garbage' comment was directed at the entire team, but I think Bieksa sucked this year. I've come to accept that Bieksa isn't a consistent player. I can't wait for a new coach. Hopefully he doesn't play favourites as much as AV. Ballard played great for a large chunk at the beginning of the season and then AV calls him out and starts benching him while Bieksa and Edler get to act like complete boneheads every night without being sat. I think you make a fair assessment of his value though. We have a lot of players that take discounts to play for this team so we can't complain too much even if one player is getting paid a tiny bit more. His season with Hamhuis in 10-11 is starting to just look like a magical run where everything was going right for this team. I'm hoping a new coach can straighten out the D on this team. Watching Edler and Bieksa as a pairing was painful. Those 2 do not go well together and I didn't even need to see them play a game to figure that one out. Kinda funny that AV and co. finally put hamjuice back together in their last game of the postseason.

Bieksa acting like a tool. If he had Ballard's name on his jersey, he would have been in the pressbox for the majority of the season. It's too bad AV let Bieksa's poor play slide. If he actually sat some games, maybe it would have snapped some sense into him. On the other hand, maybe Bieksa just means that they just need a new coach and that AV was the problem. AV was always on about how he left the motivating up to the players. I always thought that was an excuse a coach would give if he sucked at motivating so he found a way to get out of it by shifting that responsibility to the players. We definitely don't need a completely nutjob for a coach, but we do need one that believes motivating players is part of his job description as a coach. It's quite clear from the last 2 seasons that this team has played with very little motivation. Someone needs to snap some sense into this team. Play like garbage for the majority of the seasons and let our two all-star goalies bail us out. That's all that happened. Our team wasn't trying their hardest. I guess they wanted to conserve all of that energy for their long cup run. Oh wait, 1 win in their last 2 rounds of hockey.
