Perhaps the Flames feel they can get a lot more for Kipper than what it would cost to land Thomas (very likely), without losing much performance-wise. Thomas' Conservatism will fit in fine in Alberta. And if by some miracle he wins a cup with the Flames, he won't be invited to the Whitehouse. If Thomas is only taking a break due to conflicts with the B's then he might make a good replacement for Kipper who, being a bit younger, might fetch more in a trade. Could be a good precursor to a rebuild. But then we'd have to assume that the Flames management gives a crap about the long term success of their franchise.
