Expect nothing so that no matter what he does, he will exceed our expectations and we won't bash him to the ground...

We should be ecstatic if he hits 20 points. He'll likely need some top-six time to do that.

Unfortunately, he will be on the 4th line or in the AHL (which is where he really needs to be right now). Around ~10 points is what I'd expect.
What is the deal with Mike Gillis, it always seems like he's sweating...

I think 30 pts. Might get some second line time. Get him to crash the net

My guess is 10-20 depending on how he is used.

Hopefully these back spasms don't hinder him too bad this season.
With his physical potential and natural talent the sky is the limit.
He just needs to work hard and be consistent.

Nice job with the comparisons

i'd say he'll be lucky to get 10 points if he's not with the sedins.

My expectations have little to do with points.

Here's what I want from Kassian.

To pick up where he left off last year. His point production is not worth dwelling upon. All facets of the game that are important - the points will come.

To play an aggressive but disciplined game without going out of his way to make big hits - he did this well last year as a rookie. He has 'pushback' and stands up for his team-mates, but this should be measured - there's no point in compromising himself with too much of an enforcer role. That's not his role imo. He has that 'keep your head up' quality. That alone is an asset.

To backcheck and play as hard in his own end of the ice as anywhere else. He did this as a rookie. Very important to AV. I disagree with people who think AV "benched" him - it looked more like he suffered a shoulder injury near season's end.

To make good decisions with the puck. I was impressed by his hockey intelligence last year. He passes the puck well, has good vision, and has a good possession game, compatible with the Canuck's style.

To be able to adjust to different roles. He was used up and down the lineup and he'll probably continue to see differing linemates. He seemed to take cues from his veteran teammates and didn't try too hard to impress or do too much. I think they call this 'staying within' himself. A good sign imo. My impression is that he's far more intelligent than people tend to assume. My 'expectation' is that he works hard and plays intelligent hockey - if he does that, he can ignore people's expectations, because he'll be successful.

Pops in a few here and there.

Plays keep your head up hockey every night

Stands up for the boys

Limited dumb penalties

Duncan Keith.

Would be a good half year for big Z

I could see Weise/Pinizzotto/Volpatti getting in Keith's face if the Canucks bother at all. Keith is a lightweight. I don't like the optics of Kassian hunting Weise, and I think the young guy is far too valuable to sacrifice to tasks like that.

I'd be very happy if he gets to 20 pts. I agree with most on here that think he'll bounce around the lineup. Knowing AV, I just can't see him sticking in the top 6 for long. I think 10-15 is on target.

I also agree with those who say it's more important to see him develop his whole game and gain consistency.

Since everyone likes to compare him to Lucic, last time Lucic played only 50 games he had 9G 11A.

Anywhere between 15 - 20 points with a physical edge to his game will make me happy. I have so much faith in this kid and want to see him develop properly. I just want to see people stop soiling themselves everytime they think of Hodgson.

Also, let us not forget that this kid has NOT played a full season. He's only played half the games. To expect immediate production is pretty ridiculous.

Lucic only put up 68 pts in his first 146 GP getting the opportunity to play with top 9 guys.
Kassian only put up 10 pt in his first 44 GP...mind you he was on the 4th line for last dozen games or so.

So there you have it...if Kassian starts in the top 6, you're going to see an increase in production not some 4th line goon.

Edited by The Kassassin Train, 14 January 2013 - 02:15 PM.

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

Agreed.

Was thinking more along the lines of some targeted forechecking.

Completely agree. All of this chatter about Kassian being slotted with the Sedin's is nuts. I typically agree with a lot of what Tony Gallagher has to say, but that idea is just dumb. Burrows with the Sedin's works; his energy brings out the best in the twins.

Maybe try out Kassian on the PP with the twins, but not as a full-time thing.

Hey, aren't you the guy who made that thread.....

AV doesn't
want him to get too many so he won't play him as much as he has. Doesn't make sense but either does AV. The Canucks weak link is AV, the coach that doesn't coach.

KASSIAN WILL GET 16 GOALS FROM GARRISON

If we don't even dump one veteran, I'll stop posting on CDC until October 7th. It's that disappointing. - Tom Sestito, June 27th.

It all depends on his role on the team this year. If he's put in a top 6 role, I'd expect around half a point a game... so around 20-30 pts. If he's used in the 3rd/4th lines or is swapped between the bottom 6 and top 6, I'd expect 15-20 pts. He has the potential to score some decent points, and I'd like to see it happen.

That being said, Bertuzzi was 24-25ish before he actually broke out and became the awesome power forward Vancouver enjoyed during the Naslund era. I'd expect Kassian's development to be similar.

I don't think Kassian has earned his way to a top 6 spot yet, he still has a ways to go. Those of you slotting Kassian with the Sedins over Burrows.. give me a break! On AV's team you need to earn your spot.
