$2m/for 3years and instructions to put on some muscle and take a course in ass kicking.

Seriously I have liked Tanev from the time he was first played (hated his play for Wolves but I think the reasons were obvious) and think he has a lot of upside especially as a 3rd liner.

This. I don't think he is worth much more until he can step up his game. He is a great young prospect IMO. He has been given a chance to start his NHL career a little early and needs time to grow a bit more. I expect good things.

If only Tanev could shoot... He'd get more assists because of deflections, and he'd obviously get some goals...

I'd like to get him for 800K-$1.1M, but if that's not possible $1.1M - $1.39M is fine too.

Smart player, simply knows how to play..., possibly a coach some day!

Too bad he's 185 lbs soaking wet, can't shoot, doesn't hit, can't move a body from in front of the net and does not rush the puck otherwise we would have the Norris trophy winner.

Still so smart and efficient he remains a lock to play. $1.3 times two years, 1.4 times times 3 years (preferred) or $1.7 times 4!

Low 1m range. I think we've all been impressed by the solid play and composure he has out on the ice for a player of his age. But lets face it - as consistent and solid as he is, he hasn't wowed anybody with his speed, checking, shutdown or playmaking ability. I think his biggest assets aren't that tangible, and include solid decision making and his calm demeanor with the puck. Unfortunately, those two attributes alone doesn't exactly scream "give me a lucrative contract".

Yeah, he looks good up front:

Makes me miss Marco Sturm :(

Hahaha, anyways: Tanev should receive 1.5 million-1.8 million, nothing more until I see something more from him. His defensive mindset is amazing, it's just he needs to SHOOT THE PUCK.

Subban got 2 & 3.75.

You gotta think Tanev next year will be less than Subban next year.

With the way Tanev is playing right now and if he plays like that consistently and pots a few goals, I'd happily give him north of $1.5 million for 3 years.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

2 years 1.4M.

The cash will come from Alberts being let go so it gives MG a bit more cash to throw at Tanev.. Best case scenario, Alberts is re-signed for a year or two for less than 1M and Tanev gets the pay raise at 1.4M for two years.

Certainly going to be our #1 defensemen. Give him a couple more years to improve his game and he'll be our new and improved version of Matthias Ohlund in no time

I think a better scenario would be Vandermeer has a great playoff in his role, Alberts becomes expendable and either signs for <700,000 or is let go.

To be fair, Alberts should be making less than Alberts.

I wouldn't expect much..Think of this Subban is only making 2 million this season.. Canucks will offer the 10%? qualifying offer..i would be surprised if its much more than 1.2 million.

Not a penny over 1.5 m, unless he shows stunning growth.

Pretty much.

It's tough to justify more than that for a player with one career goal in 60 something games. I don't care how rock solid he is defensively. There is more than one aspect to hockey.

Changed my answer to 1.11M - 1.39M. One goal may not seem like much but it gives him leverage in negotiations. Also, that is what I think he'll earn. I think he's worth nearly $2M per year.

I think a cap hit we could expect would be in the 1.25-1.5 per year range. There is one thing that I think about though. Since his debut, we have seen a young defenceman come into the picture with incredible composure, who makes solid plays, and from what I see is seldom caught out of position. Given his abilities to do these things at such a young age, we can assume that he is only going to get better. He doesn't put up many points, but does a fine job at what his position is ultimately about...keeping pucks out of our net, as is reflected by his +/- stats, and depending on how much importance you put into that, is another value of Tanev's.

Now our defence core is, in my opinion, solid from 1-6. We don't have that one guy making 6+ mil per season, no Weber/Chara/Karlsson when he gets his payday, etc. With the exception of Tanev, we also don't currently use a defenceman making less than 4 mil per season. So that is a pretty expensive group. My question regarding Tanev now, would be do we sign him to a deal for only a couple years, or a longer term deal, say 3-4 years. Personally, I'd prefer the latter. The cap is going down after this year, so to have a young and solid defenceman who only appears to be improving locked up for a few years would make the most sense to me moving forward.
